Bored... did some polishing on Sunday.(Pics)

Decide to polish the 60-12, and 640. Spent about 3 hours total on them (with Mothers Mag polish).
Let me know what you think, and also if you think I should do my unfired 940?

Once you alter the finish, it's not "new in box" anymore.
I would think it would hurt resale value.

Manual labor only. Its really not that bad. The model 60 I spent 1 1/2 hours on, and it turned out pretty nice. The 640, I only spent about 40 minutes on, then went back at it later for another hour. I am sure I could still do another hour or so on each, if I really felt the need.

IMHO, clean it, wax the outside, lube the inside, and shoot it.
repeat PRN. Highly polished finishes are higher maintenance and are obviously not NIB.

Wax will just clean off with solvent if you want it gone. Polishing the metal is a permanent change.

How does wax, or any other lubricant change the finish? - It doesn't. R. wax is not going to change NIB status - you are just protecting it.

I answered the OP's question about {changing} the finish.

Nice work. Mother's rules! There's a Zen sort of feeling polishing a fine revolver. NEVER hit one with a buffing wheel!
Who cares about NIB? What are you doing, saving it for the next guy after you check out?
These are made to use and enjoy.

I have several Smiths and for years have polished them. They shoot alot better when shined.

Very nice work.

I love the feeling of using Mother's polish and elbow grease on a nice Smith, and seeing the results. But then you don't even want to touch it afterward! High polish finish is definitely a double-edged sword.
