I expect my new semi-autos to be as reliable and functional as a new revolver when they come out of the box. Not interested in making repairs.
Go to the 1980 - Present revolver forum and look at the threads about the 38 and 32 ultra carry J-frame revolvers. If you go by complaints on the internet the Bodyguard 2.0 already meets your criteria of being as reliable and functional as a revolver.
My Shield Plus came with a dead front night sight and three, twelve round magazines that would not drop free. S&W shipped me a new front sight and exchanged the magazines. But once again, if you look at older threads about the Shield Plus and Shield when they came out you will see a bunch of complaints similar to what you see now with the Bodyguard.
When a new gun comes out it generates a flurry of gun enthusiasts that hang out on gun forums buying them and we do complain about everything we don't like, both real problems and minor complaints. After a gun has been out for a while the complaints taper off as everyone starts talking about the latest hot new gun instead. Manufacturers correcting defects can play a role but the main reason you see fewer complaints about older guns is the internet is talking about something else.
Most of what I read about the bodyguard 2.0 has been overwhelmingly positive. The Shield is a great choice for carry but so is the Bodyguard 2.0. If I found a 9mm too heavy to carry the BG 2.0 is the gun I would buy.
