Bought New Model 29-10

Very nice! I am a odd duck- I like the new Smith classics series. I have a 21-4 that is one of my favorite revolvers, the lock does not bother me would prefer that it is not there- but it is.

"Lock removal" is interesting? May I ask- Where do they sell them? what are the benifit's and cons of doing that?

Will S&W sell you a key for your revolver if you do not have one? (mine was used did not come with the gun).

Thanks much- very nice gun and leather OP.

I bought the LOCK DELETE KIT from a builder/vendor in ARIZONA. I'm not certain that I could post that outfit's name here in the forums. Do a quick internet search and it should easily manifest itself. That's what I did.

There may be keys available at your local gunshop, check around.

Not to start a ruckus, but the locks, IMO, are basically useless, and may prevent the revolver from firing one day, without warning.
I see no advantage having that mechanism inside the revolver frame.

The kit replaces the exposed lock cylinder with a either a titanium, ordnance steel, or stainless steel slug. Whichever one that You order, is the one You'll receive.

I have a new s&w m29-10 6” in blue. My dealer made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. It was purchased and Unfired and pawned. For $699 I took it home with me. The blue case, presentation case with everything. I wanted nickel but for that cost I can wait.

That is a Fantastic find. In fact, I'm a little envious. I just recently found a brand new 29-10 6" that has since sold because I couldn't quite come up with the $1368.00 they were wanting for it. Currently, there happens to be a brand new 29-10 4" for $1195 but it's the engraved version and only 10 min ago a very lightly used 29-10 4" has appeared, that they're asking $1299 for.
I can afford the new 4" but have apprehensions about the engraving. I've also considered making an offer on the used 4" for bit lower than they're asking.
Then I've spent the last hour or so learning all kinds of interesting information and opinions on S&W forums, that have me considering perhaps a new model 27 or an older model 29 or 629 when people come to their senses and the price point comes back down to realistic prices. Granted my knowledge is more limited than most, but surely there's something not right when the Brand New model of ANY firearm is hundreds of dollars cheaper than EVERY used version of the same. Antique, collectible, rare items aside, I'm talking LCP's Colt's Sig's.
You wouldn't have any suggestions, or just input at all about the quality and value of new or used, or new or old, or engraved vs plain finish. My intended use mostly backcountry carry, last resort in bear country and fun at the range. That is why I feel like the engraved version is going to make me want to keep it in a box rather than have fun with it. I've had my eye on a 29 for a couple years now, but the price has me reluctantly considering the 27. Any thoughts?

Back in January I stated my model 29 was round butt. I had the grips off it one time while doing new gun cleaning and did a drop or so of oil. I found out it was SQUARE butt when I went to put on the new custom grips from Badger Grips. The 629's all have round butts so I assumed the 29 did too, wrong. So, there I was, custom round frame grips and a squre grip frame. What to do...

Buy another 629, use the round frame grips on hand and order a set of SQUARE frame grips for the 29.
