Two Possibilities

Two Possibilities

1) Somebody at the factory decided to use a old box.

2) Long ago, I remember seeing Counterfeit Blank Labels for sale.

Leave no tree or politician unkicked.

Welcome! I cannot make out what is handwritten on the white end label aside from the serial number, but that is consistent with a model 10-5 from about 1966 or '67. What about the white label doesn't match up with the other end of the box?

Just a question: Has anyone ever seen a factory box label where the hand written entries wee in red ink like this one? In over 60 years all I can remember the manual notations have always been in blue ink.

The older style box with I.D. information printed directly on box shouldn't have the white label too that is from a later period.

I disagree. It has the screened blue S&W logo. the fakes don't have that. blue is the hardest to copy. They used an old box with a new label.
Don,
I meant that I do not believe the label is original to that box. I agree that it is probably a real Factory label, but I have seen many real blank labels outside the Factory. ;)

If it is a fake label at least they oriented it correctly. A large chain store that i visit often has numerous S&Ws in non-original boxes with fake labels that weren't applied correctly. Nice guns though.

Never say "never" about S&W.
I have a set of Combat grips with green pairing numbers.
