This label says "K-38 Heavy Masterpiece". Am I correct that this nomenclature refers to a box for 1949 or later gun when S&W made the change for the K-38 barrels that increased their weight to match the weight of the K-22's and K-32's?
1st K 38 Heavy Masterpiece 2/4/49 (approved 8/19/48)
1st K-38 Heavy Barrel Masterpiece, K66222, shipped to Cap't T. Thurmond Barrier, USMC, 2/4/49.
1st K-38 Heavy Barrel Masterpiece, K66198, with target hammer, reached shipping room, on 2/9/49.
My earliest Heavy barrel is K107617 that shipped in July 1951. It is wearing a pair of Target stocks I purchased, originally came with Magnas.
I was thinking that Bullmack's box might have been blue/black and not gold, but not enough to see clearly. Label remained the same as early heavy guns.
It is a blue/black box and the original end box printing shown in this additional photo was for a 32 Heavy Masterpiece. The label on the opposite end is for the 38 Heavy Masterpiece and is an obvious add on label - much like discussed in the recent thread for 4" & 6" 22 Combat Masterpiece guns.
