Anybody have one? I grew up with two, Duke & Dandy.
Loved those dogs. Had a fabulous Ger. Sherpard too.

Since we just lost our Golden "Queen Boudicca" "Boo", a fabulous dog, we're talking about getting a new dog. I want a Boxer, Deb says another Golden or Lab. We live in town, small house, fenced-in back yard to run.

I remember the Boxers as protective and very friendly. Plus short hair, no shed.

Thanks for any input!

My boxer, Franz, didn't quite make it to his 10th birthday. He had severe arthritis and could not tolerate medication. He had an eye problem peculiar to the breed that had to be treated by a specialist (read $$$). He had endless skin problems. While I love the breed (clowns of the dog world), I would not get another one due to the short lifespan and high medical problems.

Wife and I rescued an 8 month old boxer we called Bear. Quirky little guy but a heck of a lot of fun. When we got him he was thin and not house trained, by the time we had to give him up, he was healthy and happy and one of the easiest dogs to train.
Love boxers and will have another one someday!!

My uncle had a boxer for most of my childhood. From my earliest memory until I was a jr in high school. I've never been around a dog that was smarter or easier to train. Gentle as a lamb and very affectionate.

His name was "Boy". if he had any negative qualities at all it might be his "juicy" jowls. He could sling ropy streams of saliva across the room with a shake of his head. But he was such a GREAT pet in every other way that we all put up with it an happy to do so.

I love Boxers....

All of the boxers I've ever met in my life were really friendly and playful, except one. He had me cornered in my own yard with murder in his eyes.

My son got a Rottweiler puppy some months back and we are crazy about her. She is very physical, though.

I love boxers and English bulldogs. I've never met one of either breed that wasn't a wonderfully goofy sweetheart. I'm sure there are exceptions, but my experience has been delightful.

Same with St. Bernards, but a friend of mine downstate had a huge one that abruptly became so terribly dangerous he had to stand off 75 yards and put the dog down with a .30-06. No vet or animal control officer could get near the animal. I wondered if the critter might have developed a brain tumor, as the breed seems prone to cancer.

When I first met Conchita, she had a boxer, Isabelle, or Izzy. Izzy had two litters; the putative sire was a black lab in the neighborhood. I picked Chauncey Gardner out of the second litter. A bit later Duke (short for Ducati), from the first litter, also came to me.

Everybody who got a pup out of Izzy's second litter will swear it was the best dog they ever had. Chauncey is still with me. At 14 he is showing his age.

If anything, Duke was smarter and nicer than Chauncey (who, like his namesake, is a little dim), and would pull like a locomotive if hooked to a sled. Not least, he had what may have been the best stupid pet trick I ever saw. He would not only bite smoke rings out of the air, going high over and above me if necessary, he could distinguish the fractal detritus of a decaying smoke ring from a completely random cloud of smoke.

I never met another dog to combine such athleticism with a sophisticated mathematical sense. Since Letterman is a cigar guy, I was pretty sure Duke was headed for the bright lights of New York City. Unfortunately, Duke was a biter when he came to me, and I was unable to train it out of him.

Chauncey is another matter. He has been a wonderful friend and traveling companion. We have shared many adventures, including a couple of glorious days in a drift boat on the Yellowstone in the company of a couple of high-spirited Golden Retrievers. I know his time is growing short...

Rocky is out third. He sounds tough when he wants to, but he's actually about 74 Lbs. of " Oh Boy, Lets Play"! Boxers are wonderful family dogs. Our kids grew up with our last two. They act like puppies almost their whole life. Thank God they start to calm down a little after about 8 years;-)I've seen Boxers described in a pet encyclopedia as "Perhaps too fond of people." We're glad they are the way they are....

We love Boxer dogs. Our Maddy is seven years old and while I have never had a bad dog she is the best dog I've ever had. She loves kids is very gentle with little ones. Her tail was never docked and it is a weapon all of its own. She loves our horses and she and my old gelding, Mack who is gone now, used to spend a lot of time playing in the pasture. She would go down to the barn and just lay down next to him while he grazed.

The others in the pictures are our Boston Terrier Bunker and our Daughter in Law's new 6 week old Boxer named Coco. We got Bunker about three years ago from some friends who couldn't keep him anymore..........he immediately appointed himself has Chief of Security. Love 'em all.

Here's my Boxer.. Her name is Kai and she is my shadow and extremely protective of me. She's also very good with others, especially kids. They do have short hair, although they still shed a little. This is my 1st dog and could never replace her......

Next door neighbour has two. Protective until they get to know you, then they are spit factories.

That and the 'What are you lookin at?' good looks, what's not to love?

My neighbor has a Boxer, and it is the dumbest dog I've ever saw.

They also have a Border Collie. It's smarter than I am.

My lab is pretty sharp too.

Maybe this particular Boxer is just mentally challenged, but I wouldn't have any use for one like it.

My daughter has one ..... about 5 years old now. I call him Mr. Wiggles. He can't stand still for a moment. Way, way too active / hyper for my tastes. Has some skin condition the vet says is common for the breed. Pretty well mannered and good with the grandkids but just a little much in the activity department.

Now, my son has a Belgian Malinois (sp?) Shepherd. Under a year old and still in the puppy stage but seems to have the demeanor that'll make a very fine pet for a long time.

Let me begin with I like dogs and have actually developed a wonderful relationship with them.
One of my early girlfriends families had a mated pair of boxers, Duke and Duchess. They were never friendly animals and Duke would often growl at me while I was in the house with his mistress, jealous ***. They had recieved some sort of special training and were a breeding pair making a little extra spending money for the family as well as being great guard dogs. Once the girlfriend and I were rassling around in the living room and Duke was getting a little out of hand so I reached out and slapped him across the jowls, well he didn't like that one little bit and the next thing I knew the both of them were snappin at me and in those days I was quite agile and was avoiding them the best I could which for some reason tickled my little girlfriend to no end, me jumpin and hoppin trying my best not to get snapped on by a her pair of boxers. She eventually got them settled down but as far as I was concerned "It was on" as far as the dogs were concerned. We carried on for nearly a year, I avoided her dogs the best I could and eventually they ended up out at her dad's ranch when my girlfriends folks split up. I would only run into them when taking a load of hay out for the girlfriends hayburners and oft chance we went riding, ropin and rompin in the hay. As most relationships used to go for me back in those days we ended up having a big row over one silly thing or another, if I had known then what I learned later I would have stuck around but lost my temper and blasted off in my truck and I remember that son of a buck of a dog Duke chasing after me in the dust, I got drunk with a buddy, we went down to the Army recruiters and joined the Army the next day...summer of '69 Thats my boxer dog story...

We had a 74 lb male boxer ...he never drooled ,because all he got was dog food..no table food. He had a big yard to run in and was in great shape. A great home protecter and excellent with the kids. For me..they have to have the ears cropped ..I don't like a floppy eared boxer at all. He lasted only 8 years..he had trouble with his rear legs and could no longer take a dump without falling over...it was one of the saddest days putting him down. They have messed with the breed so much....making them smaller and such. You have to find the right breeder...too many people in it for the money and don't know JACK about the breed. I'm done !!
