I started thinking about this after reading the 10XX Shooters post. A brass catcher is an interesting concept.

We have made our own range at the the back of our 120 acre farm. It obviously does not have golf-course-style grass. Just shaggy field grass. We have tried spreading out tarps and sheets to catch most of our brass. But this can just be a pain. I'm not a big fan of brass catchers that you hold in you hand or that mount to your gun (at least not for hand guns). I am beginning to wonder if it is possible to make large frame covered with net or cloth that intercepts the flight of the brass and funnels it to a common point on the ground. Has anyone tried this? I imagine you could use PVC pipe for the frame and keep the cost relatively low. Any ideas would be appreciated. If you've built one and don't mind sharing, pictures would be great.

Maybe I should just groom the grass and open a putting green. Of course, the occasional BOOM from the guns might bust up the putter's concentrate'.

Sgt. Preston
Thanks for the reply. That looks like a good product. Do you find that it inconveniences your shooting enjoyment at all?

Look on the Graco site for their free standing model it's inexpensive and gives you lots of freedom of movement.
It would be easy enough to make your own, but Graco,s is inexpensive and of good quality.
There are other ones available none as reasonable and portable as Graco.
If you do a web search you will find lots of designs for more permanent installations. If you are going to set up a formal range type arrangement with lanes and so forth, permanent may be the way to go. Typically they are made of HD plastic screening, widely used in FL for swimming pool enclosures.

Sgt Preston back again. cAlvis I only shoot indoors & my brass catcher sits on the shooting shelf just to my right. The brass catcher "lives" permanently in the trunk of my car. So it's not too much trouble & it's worth it to me not to have to pick it up off of the floor. I have tried the hand held ones & they didn't agree with me. The felt odd & were distracting when making multiple shots. Hope this helps. Sgt Preston USMC LLA
