every 10 or so rounds rthis happens: I'm using expensive horniday 325 gr bullets factory manufactured. One of the casings will not eject with the star ejector, I need to use a pencil or something else to eject the round. Also, about every 20 rounds using double action or single action, the cylinder will jam and not rotate. I must tap the gun facing barrel down and open up the cylinder to correct.

Thats a poor poll. If you have no problems as described you cannot participate. That gun needs to go back to the factory

I have the 6.5" barrel and the trigger is the near the best I have ever shot, the cylinder has never jammed and the spent casings fall out without having to use the ejector at all, every time.

I did have a problem with the cylinder stop spring, it was allowing unauthorized rotation. Sent it back, perfect now after getting the correct spring.

The S&W 500 should be a joy to shoot in all respects, send it back

There may not be anything wrong with the gun, Hornady brass for the .500 Mag has a track record of being soft and could be causing the problem you're having. Use Starline brass and I'll bet the problem goes away. Don

+1 on poor poll questions as the poll assumes there is something to complain about with the 500... many shooters know that Hornady brass is soft and has had different issues in different calibers... A Hornady employee told me they contract it out but did not know who really makes it... As noted, try Starline brass and see if your problems go away or send the gun back to the guys that made it.

+1 on poor poll. No issues with my 8 3/8 and as stated above my brass just falls out. Great gun.

Originator of thread sending gun back

Thanks, i'm new to the forum and revolvers...especially when my gunsmith saw the problem and told me to ask the forum and go for warranty work. Sorry about the poll...

HOW DO I STOP THE POLE? Anyone?

Dave

This is odd. I would try some different manufactured loads and if the problem still persists than send it back to Smith. Maybe the chambers are out of spec. I currently own 4 500s and have owned 6 and the only time I have ever had any issues with ejection in any of the guns was due to well worn brass needing to be trimmed. Even then the only gun effected was my John Ross. Great guns. Love them all!
