I use two methods....
1. A mesh tarp from Harbor Freight. Works good if you are only shooting one gun from the same spot.

2. A "pooper scooper" from Big-Lots. Works really well as well

I took my old wet/dry shop vac to the range today. We have electricity, so all I needed was a longer extension cord. About 30 minutes into it and I had sucked up a gallon bag full of brass. No bending over, and once I modified the intake adapter just slightly, no stoppages.

Absolutely the easiest and fastest way I have found so far.

The down side? When I got home I had to separate out the dead grass and trash, so I dumped the vac contents into a big hardware cloth tray I had build for another task and hit it with the water hose. Easy enough!
