I took my brand new S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum with 6 1/2" barrel to the range this morning.

I was only able to get off three shots.

I loaded six rounds of Fiocci 200gr JHP, closed the cylinder, aimed and fired at a target 25 yards away (the limit at our pistol range).

Bullseye. Amazed, I handed the gun to my best friend and asked him to take a shot.

He aimed and fired. Another bullseye, precisely at the center of the target. The trigger action on this Model 29 is incredibly smooth and sensitive.

My friend handed the gun to me. I aimed and fired.

This time, there was no earth-shattering kaboom. Just a fizzle and some smoke.

I immediately suspected squib round and sure enough, when I emptied the cylinder of all live ammo and looked down the barrel, a lead round was firmly stuck inside the barrel of my brand new Model 29.

Thank goodness I realized what happened, when it happened.

I blame the ammo. That was Fiocci 200gr JHP.

Squib-licious

This can happen with any ammo, at any time. Kudos for realizing it and not turning your fine revolver into a hand grenade. This is a good reminder to us all about the possibility of squibs...
