About 10 years ago, m y nephew had a fellow load 350 +/- 44 magnum rounds for his 29-2 revolver. The fellow loaded 15 grains of Accurate 7 powder, under a unknown commercial cast 240 grain swc bullet. The cartridges COL measures 1.630. At this length, the case covers the crimp groove completely. Most of the rounds didn't have all of the bell taken out of the case after crimping. I don't know how many rounds my nephew fired, but the last one blowed up, aka. "KA-BOOMED" his 29-2. So, this last week I offered to dismantle the rounds and reload them. I should have checked my manuals for the proper COL. The COL is stated to be 1.610. I assumed (you know what that means) that the crimp groove on the cast bullet was positioned to be at the proper dimension to come out to the proper COL or shorter. No such luck. The COL of the rounds I loaded with the bullet properly crimped is "1.670". I don't have the revolver to check the cartridges in the cylinder. Question: Will the cartridges fit in the 29-2 cylinder with enough clearance for the cylinder to turn? Sorry for the long version to the final question. I like to give as much information as possible.
