About 15 months ago, I posted a picture of my grandson, Brig, and a bear he shot while he and his dad, my son Paul, were visiting my nephew in Montana for a spring bear hunt. He used my old .30-06 rifle.:)

Well, the rug arrived in the mail today. That's one happy kid!

While in Montana, they also found another bear skull. Here's a comparison of the two skulls...Brig's bear on the left.

You all need to write a song about Brig! Just don't remind him Davy Crockett killed his first bear when we was only three!

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so he knew ev'ry tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett,
King of the wild frontier!

If I may, John, yours is a common misunderstanding of this old folk tune which has, indeed, with the passage of time achieved mythic status in the minds of many proud Americans of our generation.

The belief is Mr. David Crockett killed a bear when he was only three years old. That is the cherished belief held dear by many.

The ugly truth, however, is far less heroic and indeed quite tragic.

What actually happened, was David Crockett was killed in a bar when he was only three years old. (He was a hard drinkin' l'il tyke and got into one fracas too many...)

I think everyone should decorate their home with dead animals and their body parts.
