It's been quite a while since I've bought a S&W, broke the drought yesterday with this nice 14-1. Been looking for a K38/14 for a while, this one is just what I like-nice condition with just enough wear that I don't feel guilty shooting it. Just a bit of wear on the muzzle, barely a turn line. Clean bore and chambers.
Took it to the range today, rested at 40', could cover 6 shots with a nickel, slightly bigger group offhand, but it's a fine shooter.
If anyone has any input, comments, or would like to venture a build or ship date, I'd be thankful.

Hi Wrench
A 14-1 with that serial number should be from 1960.

That is a very nice looking K-38! The target stocks are beautiful and are certainly period correct. They very likely came with that gun originally. The only Model 14-1 in my collection came with Magna stocks, which are still on it. Mine is in about the same condition as yours and is still in its original box. But I'm somewhat jealous of your target stocks. Also mine shipped with the standard hammer and trigger, while yours was clearly a 3T gun. Congratulations!

Incidentally, what is particularly neat about your target stocks is the small football relief. I have a 15-2 that came with stocks like that. They are not seen all that often. Here's a pic:

Beautiful! Love the stocks and the case color in the trigger & hammer. Looks to be about May 1961. Just can't beat a K-38! ;)

Thanks for the nice comments and information. Mine did not come with the box or anything, just the revolver.
I think these things are just dead sexy.
I do see I'm going to have to up my photography skills to hang around here, beautiful guns and beautiful photos.

I would have to say that is a VERY nice 14! They just look so cool. I have a 14-3 that I picked up a couple of years ago. It shoots quite well. Bob
