Broken frame

After reading posts and checking my model 38 noticed my frame is broke beneath the barrel! The ser no is BPK 5674 and was wondering if anyone could tell me the year of it? I bought it new but lost paperwork and can't remember the year.

You will need to post a good close up photo or two to confirm this unfortunate event. If I am not mistaken, the BPK prefix shows manufacture 1994 (SCSW-4)

If you still know where your box is, the date of manufacture is a code number under the heading "SPEC ORD"

Based on the number that you provided, your revolver was manufactured near the very end of 1993 or very beginning of 1994

Post a picture. Contact Smith and Wesson. I'm not sure how long the factory will repair/replace a faulty revolver, but it's worth asking.

I have a Model 38 (I assume yours is the snub nose revolver with alloy frame?). I limit the number of rounds to what's necessary to retain competency and definitely no +P.

S&W's lifetime service policy began a couple of years before your gun was made. I believe they will honor it. I had a 1991-built Model 642 crack the frame in the same place in 2011. S&W can't repair aluminum frames so they scrapped my old gun and sent me a current model.

Call them and they will send a pre-paid FedEx shipping label. They will call you or mail you with a decision. I had my new gun in my hands in about 2 weeks.
