I just received a pair of J Frame round butt target grips. There is a tiny piece broken off of 1, and another tiny piece ready to fall off. What is the best glue to use if any? Will the repair be permanent? I do plan on refinishing the grips. What is the best way to remove medallions? (somebody before me was careless?) Thanks, Bob

I am thinking about trying super glue gel. Liquid soaks into the wood too fast according to the internet! Thanks for the responses! Bob

It's wood, I would use wood glue. A glued joint is often stronger than the wood itself. Go with something like Tightbond waterproof. This way you can clean without worry you would soften the joint.

Just my 2 cents, I use gorilla epoxy on all grip repairs, it seems to work the best. I would not remove the medallion if you do you must epoxy the medallion back in.

Good Luck Pete

Gorilla is good but watch out, it grows as it dries and if you are not careful you can end up with a mess.

Thanks everyone! I used super glue gel. Repair is invisible. I also glued a small piece of silk on the back of the grip over the crack for extra strength. If the joint breaks in theory the piece won't fall out. Bob

Super glue is what you want, but small pieces like that are difficult to repair mainly because they want to stick to your fingers since not getting glue all over it is difficult.

Unlike most other glues and epoxies, super glue soaks into the wood deep and will take wood with it if it comes off.

There is no reason to remove a medallion from stocks, unless you are salvaging them from a ruined pair.
