Today, one of the pins broke on my 29-2's hand, rendering the DA trigger nonfunctional.

Will the oversize Power Custom hand work on the 29-2 or is it only for newer production guns? I notice the old hand has three pins, where the PC part only has two. If not, does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement? Online sources for used parts don't show any available.

Midway has both the S&W factory oversized and regular hands in stock. (The oversized hand will likely need fitting to the gun)

Smith & Wesson Hand S&W 25-7 27-5 57-3 610 624-2 - MPN: 210600000

Smith & Wesson Hand S&W G N Frame 6-Shot Revolver - MPN: 210590000

The Power Custom "oversized" hand can be fit to your gun, but lacks the third pin on the back. This "magnum" pin as some refer to it, intercedes between the front of the bolt and the frame and blocks the bolt from moving forward during "detonation", or firing, due to recoil. (trigger back)

Don't discard the old hand....the broken hand spring pin can be repaired.

Thanks. For some reason, my initial search on Midway only turned up the PC hand.

The larger pin of the two is the one that broke. I don't believe that's the spring pin?

Measure the width of the hand with a good micrometer or caliper. If the timing on your 29 was good, that is the size you want. If the timing was slow, you will want to get one .001 or .002 larger. Standard size hands run .092 to .095 and oversize .096 to .099. The Power hand sometimes runs .100 to .101. Probably way too much for what you need. They are very hard to cut down. Besides, to fit a Power hand the frame window will need to be opened up, which in my opinion is not a good thing to do unless absolutely necessary.

Ordering hand sizes can be fun as they usually come in standard and oversize and you can get a variety of sizes. It's kinda pot luck as I don't know of any source that you can specify the hand size.

Thanks. The timing is pretty spot on with this gun. The original hand measures .094. Midway has the factory hand in stock, so I think I'll skip the PC part.

I have a PC hand in my 4" 29-2. I was able to fit the part without opening the window in the frame. My gun is timed much better now
