Broken MIM firing pin

was admiring my 646 today and dry fired a couple of times to feel the silky smooth trigger. I looked through the headspace gap to see the firing pin show itself with one trigger pull... squeezed it again and ntohing... repeated it and still nothing.. removed the firing pin to find that the pin had broken off... This of course is the frame mounted Pin... I havent read any threads about this yet, so Im wondering how common this is if at all....

I have not heard of it, but it doesn't suprise me.

I have never seen anything on that. But that part isn't MIM, it's a machine part. $10 bucks to replace.

Are you sure that the firing pin on your 646 is MIM? The hammer and trigger may be, but the firing pin, don't think so.

It's a ten minute fix and most of that time is to open the gun up and close it again. When you order parts, get two.

well this is where assuming screws me over... It is my only MIM gun, so of course I assumed it was MIM.... guess not... I have already ordered another pin for the fix. I was just surprised to see it break like that...

I do a lot of work on high-volume competition revolvers. Breakage of factory firing pins is rare. Breakage of aftermarket firing pins is pretty common. Most factory pins are made from titanium, incidentally.
