Broken trigger pivot pin....common??

Picked up a police trade-in M10-6. It had a little hiccup/catch about 1/3 into the trigger pull but functioned fine. Took it apart and discovered the trigger pivot pin was snapped off at its base.

I've never seen this or heard of it breaking in all my years. Is this a rare event?

I had to deadline three or four model 19's out of our armory in the past few years for the exact same thing - different serial ranges, no identifiable common factor that I could find - they saw 38 spl for most of the rounds fired.

I have an N frame in .357 with the same problem.
I purchased it that way, because of a good discounted price.
I consider myself a good pistol-smith with a vast knowledge
of mechanical devices, and I would like to pass on to you-all
a caution that I have formed in my own mind about the above problem.
After you have removed the side-plate, do not cycle your revolver's trigger and hammer action, at least not with all the springs in place. When you do this with the springs in place, you're putting undo strain on the pivot pins because remember, the pins don't have the support offered by the side-plate.

Dang, that's not good news. I am not-so-patiently waiting for my 640 with a canted barrel to get fixed.

I was a bit surprised at the 6 month estimate. Almost felt like they were trying to discourage me but I'd rather have them be conservative than overly optimistic on the timeline. Besides it'll give me more quality with my M19 2.5".

Don't forget to lube it with moly when you clean it and reassembly it.
