Got this voicemail today:

Hi, Mike. My name is Brandon from Ohio. You don't know me, but I placed an order with brownells the other day and somehow. I received an email for your order on my email. I called them today, and they said they were having some issues this weekend and emails were being sent to all email addresses, but I just wanted to let you know that your package is supposed to be delivered on Monday the 5th. I guess if you have any other questions. Maybe get in contact with them, but I guess the least I can do for you was the call you and let you know that your package is on the way somehow. I got your email, but I tracked it for you. Hey, it'll be there on the 5th, but other than that have a great day.

Really nice of him to call me. I sent an email to Brownell but have not heard back. Makes me nervous; wonder what else of my private data is being shared?

Talked to Brownells. They said several customers have been affected by the data breach. They said they are studying why it happened and hope to take corrective action. They do not think credit card info was compromised but names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, and so on were. I suggested they may need to replace their IT staff and internal auditors.

All you need is one rotten punk in the mix. I had a debit card compromised 10yrs back. Rang up at Walmart as insufficient funds out of the blue. Called the bank and they showed a bunch of purchases in California. Got all of that back and all, and the bank would only say that it was in the fort smith area. I was working 70 miles north of there at the time, and the only times I'd used a card in Fort Smith in the last month or so was at a Walmart and Olive Garden. Which basically tells me it was some punk waiter at the Olive Garden. Oh well, evidently someone in Stockton, CA had a decent spree for a few days on the banks dime. Also had a credit card get compromised once for someone to buy a 1000 plane ticket out of Toronto. Didn't catch that til a day after the flight date, otherwise they might have apprehended that one.

Sucks a bit because I ordered from Brownells 3 times this year including Sunday. I generally hang up on the phone spammers anyway.
