My wife has decided to buy me a new knife as an anniversary gift. She wants to pick it out herself. She's found a Browning branded pocket knife knife that she thinks is cool. I have not seen it. It's a Japanese made knife and not inexpensive at $80.00.
Anyone experienced with Browning knife quality?

I have, I think, 3 Browning branded knives made in (Seki) Japan; two folders and a sheath knife. All are of excellent quality.

Edited to add that I have a Gerber folding knife, a S&W and Beretta fixed blade knives, all from Japan. They too are excellent.

Thanks Bob, I gave Mary your review and now she's off to do some haggling.

Well, she bought it and surprisingly got $10.00 knocked off the price. I don't get to see it until tomorrow but I know it's a two bladed Bird & Fish Sambar Stag handled folder #522. I could sneak a peek by googling but I'll wait to be surprised.
No one other than Bullet Bob knows about Browning knives?

Please post some pics when you get it. We'd all love to see it!

Browning knives are first rate. I have several and they are definately keepers. I use them alot and they seem to hold an edge well and unlike some knives I dont think they are hard to sharpen.

I have a fixed blade hunter that I bought in 1977 and it has served me well. Never thought it was hard to sharpen. Held an edge well and looked good. Skinned many squirrels with it.

I have a few, but not sure my comments relate to the knife you're getting.

Browning contracted with some guy named Gil Hibben to design a line of fixed blade hunting knives. I was back in the 1970s and Hibben was a big name in the hand made knife world. All Gil did was use his standard handle/hilts and butt, changing the blades to different lengths and profiles to suit Browning's need.

I have a bi-centennial Browning 45-70 with a matching knife. Its clearly a Hibben design. The marriage between them continued for a number of years. Once you see the butt of a Hibben and then see a period Browning, you can't miss the heritage.

I've bought a fair number of Browning guns and other outdoor accessories. Its a top brand. I've never been dissatisfied with anything that carries their brand, including my first gun safe. The stuff isn't cheap, but its good.

Have three Browning folding knives that I like and that seem to be of good quality. Made in Japan. Inexpensive but nice. Gave away several of the same types, everybody liked them.

I have a Browning liner lock folder that came in a bubble pack with the LED headlamp my wife got me one year for Christmas. It was decent quality, but not great. I assume there have been a number of makers for knives that bear the trademark, and a wide range of quality.
