Looks like my Spring cleaning is slowly moving through Summer and probably into Fall. In sorting through some boxes of holsters, etc. that I have, I came across what I think are pistol cases for the Browning Hi Power. Overall dimensions are 10”x7”. I don’t have a Hi Power so I’m not sure what will fit them.

These soft sided cases only have “Browning” printed in gold on the spine - opposite side of the zipper and not on the front like most I’ve seen. Two have brass zippers and the one with the Browning “stag” logo has a nylon zipper.. I’m guessing this is the newer style.

I’ve checked eBay for pricing and also to compare the “Browning” gold imprint. So far, prices are all over the place and only show cases with the “Browning” name printed on the large flat area of the case.

Can anyone help date theses cases and tell me what might fit them?

Thanks!

Those I believe are the newer Browning cases. I sold some old ones with Browning stamped in gold on the side of the case. They went for $50.00 a case. Check ebay or Gunbroker for sale prices

Those are Browning Hi Power cases. They were used between 1964 and 1980ish Early ones had black brass zippers with red velvet linings Later versions had brass zippers.

Logos were located on the spine or front side panel. They were later replaced by a vinyl pouch. I believe the one with the Browning Stag is a later vinyl version. This one was made by YKK and has a black zipper. It is not worth as much. These were used in the early to late 80s.

The other two are older vintage ones were made by one of 3 vendors. Conmar, Scovil or Talon. Talon and Scovil pouches had Browning logo on the spine. The Conmar on the side panel.

It looks like you have at least one Talon. I cannot see the logo on the bottom one. Looking at the shape of the hole in the zipper I am going to guess it is also a Talon. The other manufacturers had a less circular shape.

The older ones are worth $50-$100 depending on maker and condition. The newer one is worth $25-$50. Ebay or classifieds on 1911 heavy forums is the best place to sell them.

Nope. My BHP case from 1972. Case has Browning stamped in gold on the side. Not like any of those above.

I am not sure what you mean by nope? Looks like a Conmar case to me.

I stated: The other two are older vintage ones were made by one of 3 vendors. Conmar, Scovil or Talon. Talon and Scovil pouches had Browning logo on the spine. The Conmar on the side panel.

This is a Conmar case that came with a T series I own. As I stated above there were 3 vendors. Stamped Browning on the spine Conmar on the front side panel. Look at the zipper there should be the name of the maker.

Thanks… the two brass zippered ones both have “Talon” zipper pulls and all three have the red felt type lining.

Yup you have 2 older cases and one newer one. I stand by my previous post on value and where to sell them. You could also list them here and some might snatch them up.

How much smaller is a Hi Power than a USGI model 1911a1?

Here’s a m1911a1 sitting in the gun rug… and also a Colt 1903.

I had a Browning 1955 that came in a case like that. It would be roughly the same size as the Colt 1903 pictured. I believe that's the case you have.

Other than the grip width, the Hi-Power and a 1911 are the same size. They can even use the same holsters.

As I stated earlier the BHP is the sme length as a Commander 1911. It is smaller than a Govt 1911.

BHP: Overall length: 7.75"

1911 Govt Overall length 8.5" in (216 mm)

1911 Commander Overall Length 7.75"

Browning also supplied cases with their 1st Series Challenger .22 automatics. The case is longer, measuring 14 x 7 inches. Same red felt lining. The zipper on mine is marked Conmatic which is assume is Conmar.

Similar cases were also supplied in size appropriate variations for the .25 Cal. "Baby" Browning and .380 cal. Model 1910 or as it is known in the US, the Model 1955. I'm pretty sure that the cases were something that were added by the US importer and didn't come that way from the factory.

And like anything else in the gun collecting world, those vinyl cases that are worth about $10 are worth a lot more now because they say Browning on the side.

Yup just like diamond magna grips which people back in the day took off and threw in the trash so they could put a nice pair of Pachmayr rubbers on.
