I was browsing a internet gun shop for an older S&W revolver when i came across this treasure. Its a Ranger model 101.16 87M 22lr semi auto civilian version of the military trainer. It looks similair to a m1 garand. It has a 16rd tubular magazine. Since i'm into collecting the older 22's for my 2 yo grandson i figured this one would be good for him. I believe the military version is called the Springfield model 101.16 M87. These are really neat looking military style rifles in 22lr.

They are all built on the Steven 87C 22rf semi auto sporting rifle.
The Garand stocked look alikes get quite alot more money.

The 'Ranger' brand was sold thru Sears, but it's the same rifle as the Springfield branded gun. There's some minor changes in parts along the way. There's a tube feed and a detachable magazine edition.
I think the Ranger marked rifles are post WW2 mfg.
The Stevens 87M (the Stevens 'Garand version) actually came out in 1940.

The 87C action can give some problems w/feeding both the tube feed and magazine feed types. Usually it's for lack of cleaning and/or some adjustments done by a well meaning owner in an attempt to tune up the rifle.
Sure would make an awfully nice gift for the Grandson!
