Brush cleaning threshold

Well I just learned the cleaning threshold for my 15-22. The point at which the boresnake fails and the rod and brush are required. For me using CCI Tactical and Winchester M22 it is 800 rounds! The leader of the boresnake would not fall through the barrel and brush was real tight. A few tough passes with a good rod and brush brought out a splatter of lead that was about hald way down the barrel.. Surprised me... Ron

id guess that it was less from the cci tactical than the m22.

That's wierd.

I've shot a lot more non-plated ammo (blazer) in between cleanings and didn't have that much fouling. Was it wax or lead?

in all my range trips with tons of rounds fired each, I've only had this issue once and it was with winchester 555. i've never had an issue with fouling otherwise.

WOW, a plug of lead big enough to block the leader of the boresnake? That doesn't sound good.

Yeah, there must've been something screwy there. I've shot 1,500 rounds in a sitting, and didn't have anything like that (a disgustingly dirty bolt assembly, though).

The pistol snake went through the first time, but was real tight. The first pass had pulled the leading edges of the splatter up as it passed through. You could see the edges when looking down the barrel. It looked like a few "blobs" for lack of a more descriptive term. I ran solvent down the barrel several times and eventually it loosened it up enough for the brush to pull it out. It's possible it started out closer to the chamber , but it sure seemed to be stuck where it was.

We experienced no issues when shooting that day. 400 rounds during that range session.. Strange to say the least.. Ron

PS: Sure would like to have a few FMJ rounds.. I'm not too big on plated rounds at the range..

There is no such thing as .22 LR FMJ rounds. There is lubricated lead, copper-washed and plated.

PS: I don't normally shoot .22's
