Brush size for 32 H&R Mag J-frames and Speed Loaders?

I just picked up a 432PD in 32 H&R magnum and had a couple questions:

1: Can/should I use a 357 sized bore brush in my .32 or should I go find a dedicated 32 kit?

2: Does anyone other than HKS make a good speed loader for the 6 shot 32s? I have some speed strips but having some options would be nice. I'm really curious if anyone knows whether or not the 327 magnum Speed Beez speed loaders for LCRs would work?

Thanks!

Brushes are cheap, get what you need for a 32. I use a 9mm/357 brush for the cylinder if it is really fouled as it tends to get from shooting 32 longs but that’s not for normal cleaning.

The HKS speed loaders are the only ones I’m aware of.

Are you close to Roanoke? If so we can get together for a 32 Admiration Society range session.

I've used oversized brushes since the 70s with good results - I use 243 brushes in 22s, 40/41 caliber in 38/357, 45 in 44, and 50 in 45. Your barrel is much stronger and harder than any brush you run through it, and the larger brushes clean more effectively. Others disagree.

Me, me! Don’t forget to contact me for that meeting. I’ll bring a bunch of my “kids” and lots of ammo from Lynchburg. Reminiscent of the old “44 Associates” of the past, how about the formation of “32 Cooperative” for those of us who favor the triente y dos?

After long, diligent searches for speed loaders I have found HKS models for J- and K-frames, but none from Jet, Safariland, etc. to me at least, the HKS are OK as ammo carriers, but don’t provide that much “speed” to the loading. :)

I’ve seen listings for the speed strips in various calibers, but have only actually owned them in 38 Spl for my Chiefs Specials. They speed up the loading process for me somewhat and have the advantage of carrying flat.

I use 8mm/338 brushes, but have used 9mm in a pinch. I am sure a 30 cal brush would do the job.

Thanks all, ordered some cleaning gear!

Unfortunately, I'm stuck up in Northern VA for work. Hoping to move on in the coming years, but the jobs are up here.

One other side question: The ejector rod tip on the gun doesn't seem to properly engage the locking pin under the barrel (not sure if I'm using the right terms). If I push the end of the ejector rod manually, it will engage the lock, but if I just close the cylinder, it won't. Any tips to get it sorted out?

If tthe lug pin itself is sticky, drip some alcohol or other cleaning fluid on the lug pin will working it (cylinder open) then put the tiniest drop of oil on it.

If it is the center pin in the ejector rod, I would dissemble and clean the center pin center of rod and reassemble. It could also be the bolt the is slid back and forth by the thumb piece. Clean and just the tininess bit of oil.

Thumb piece shoves bolt forward. Bolt has small spring and plunger in it that presses against back of frame. Center pin slides in rod and has small spring. Lug has small spring. If any of thoses is a bit sticky it can cause your problem.

You also have a new gun and every thing it tight. Just operating it a few times may work out any tiny burs, grit etc that are doing it.

Your going to like the gun. I have several I and J frame 32 S&W and that fire 32 H&R.

Back to your question about brushes... I've generally used 30 caliber brushes if I can't actually find one in 32 (yes, some do exist!)

Where in NoVA are you? When my kid brother and his family lived in South Riding, they found a reasonably convenient Izaak Walton. He did a lot of shooting there, and for handguns and 22s their range was quite adequate.

Still waiting to hear about a Central VA gathering of the 32 Lovers...

Thanks for the help and advice! I'm going to disassemble the cylinder this weekend (carefully!) and see if that makes any difference. The ejector rod seems tight in the cylinder. If it persists, maybe I should just send it in to S&W.

Thanks again to everyone!

Green Frog, I'm just south of Chantilly. Originally from PA, but came down here a ways back for work.

.32 bore brush

9 mm bore snake works well for my LCR 327. Rifle length bronze brushes are usually too long for me to use from the forcing cone toward muzzle, I also bought a shorter handgun .32 bore brush which wasn't too expensive, about $8. I keep it in a separate bag to be able to tell it apart from the others.
