I just saw one at my dealer. The only markings are a BSA shield on the left side of the receiver. The action was incredibly smooth and solid feeling. Didn't get to try the trigger. How are they?
The butt stock was walnut with a European style cheek piece. The fore-end was almost square, like a 3x3 with an accessory rail.
It had aperture sights with a globe style front.
The receiver was in very nice condition but the barrel had some minor rust spots on the outside.
How do I tell if it's a Mk I or Mk II action?
Any general info would be appreciated. He's asking $500.00 but I bet I can get him down to $400.00.

Martinis are fun and generally fairly accurate if cared for. $400 range sounds about right for older models. Not that familiar with the MK I and II (thinking one is a pistol grip)The later models get fairly heavy. There is wood and some parts available to restock and improve the trigger, etc. Rimfirecentral has some good info on Martinis

I have two in Mashburn Bee and Unertl scopes - good to about 250 yards

I have a BSA Model 12. I find that this is the most accurate .22 rifle that I have ever played with. It is a bit muzzle heavy. I love playing with the peep sight at longer ranges. A friend has a cabin with a porch that overlooks a private lake allowing 400 yards of safe shooting. After the range gets doped out and the sight adjustments noted, it was a hoot plinking with that rifle.

Check out this site for information.
