Bud Model 10 update

So I took the not so old, old gal out to the range (10-10 I guess from 1988). Even with the side to side play in the cylinder she shoots pretty well. I'm happy, I did order an over-sized Power Custom bolt that I will install to reduce some of that play and also installed a reduced power trigger return spring. Not pretty, has some Australian Police history and probably was drug around by a wallaby in the outback from the looks of the finish.. Fine with me...Shoots 158 Dardas SWC's with 3.5 of Bulls Eye, Winchester small pistol primer pretty well at 15 yards off hand.

I was about to say the same thing. Your expectations might be a bit high. Your title stated "Bud Model" , are you referring to this as a Bud's used gun? If so for the price I have seen them advertised you did quite well. For the chance you take in buying one I think I would be happy if the mechanical issue doesn't get to expensive. I have seen a couple of M681 4" SS Aussie police trade-ins on GA that have the import stamp I wouldn't mind owning. They are going for $530 in good mechanical order with the finish at 80-85%, but they look nicer. There listed on Robertson's Trading Post. You will have to devote 10-15 minutes to read the description. It's worth the price of admission.

Of course joking about the wallaby remark, I'd like to see what they use for holsters as the holster wear runs the complete length of the barrel almost to the frame. Yes it is a Buds used/trade in, sorry can't edit the subject line... As I said I am ok with the wear, it is a Smith and is very smooth and silly accurate considering. They aren't made quite like this any more, well not for under $600.. Plus all the potential history. I like it. There have been some posts of a prticular 3" model 10 that I'm pretty sure a Wallaby got a hold of.....

I've had 2Model 10s. One from a Buds shipment years ago, that I foolishly sold. The second from the classifieds here. Both were LE trade ins, Australia and New York. Both had some rotational play for what it's worth. And both shot incredibly well. Unless your play is extreme, I wouldn't worry about it. The condition of yours doesn't even look all that bad. Enjoy it.

Another update... I received the over-sized cylinder bolt today and with just a few strokes of a fine stone it all fit together pretty well. I would say it took somewhere in the range of 75-80% of the side to side play out, and it times correctly. A very easy install. I also decided this week that the Magna/T-grip combo on a K frame just doesn't work for me as well as it does on a J frame. So I ordered an Ahrends CocoBolo Tactical conversion grip. I also have this grip on a 19-4 and my 629-6 and really like them. Any way I will have it out to the range tomorrow along with my Marlin in 32 Winchester Special. Not at all traditional but I like the way it looks and even more how it points and fits my hand!

One last update, the Victoria Police benefited from the over-sized cylinder bolt and when I'm not over caffeinated it really shows what it can do. The over-sized bolt certainly didn't make it shoot worse... I really like this old 10 and will enjoy it for many more years to come..
