That's a great looking pistol. I am looking forward to a report. I bought a 4" aluminum frame Kimber a couple of months ago. I sure wish I had held out for the Smith.

Whether it's "better" would be up to you. What makes them different is:

No firing pin block.
New "fish-scale scallops" front and rear.
New trigger.
Extra heavy duty, oversized external extractor.
Chamfered and recessed target crown.

Was wondering the same thing Caje. Been wondering if I jumped the gun, on buying my S&W 1911 last fall, but then again I bought the gun LNIB in my price range.

Whether it's "better" would be up to you. What makes them different is:

No firing pin block.
New "fish-scale scallops" front and rear.
New trigger.
Extra heavy duty, oversized external extractor.
Chamfered and recessed target crown.

The Main Spring Housing also has a more aggressive checkering to it too. The grips are also different, and have a more aggressive checkering as well. The one I handled at my LGS yesterday seemed to have the same amount of wiggle play in the trigger as my 108284. The slide safety seemed to have a more positive feel to it while engaging or disengaging.

Compared to similar firearms from other makers it's a pretty good price for what you're getting. Have you taken a look at what older S&W revolvers are selling for?

Well,I kinda like the original design myself. Sorta like the Star Spangled Banner. Why gussy it up when it's just fine like it is?
