It looks like they are only teasing us with an email this morning about their new VIP service (essentially, you pay extra and get first bite at the apple). However, for those not buying into the VIP service, the guns will be available in about 2 1/2 days.

I'm curious about the rarity/value of these 4" Model 10's. They are offering both square butt and round butt for $269 shipped (plus your FFL).

Thoughts?

Uhg... No more money. Barely fit into three inch buy. Being responsible and spending within my means sure isn't fun. Thanks for the heads up though. I look forward to seeing the threads that pop up with more New To Me posts.

Same here...no more $$ after the 3 incher last week...

Besides, I already have a 4" 64 so I'm set. Too bad they can't get in a pile of 4" 686's or 2" model 60's!

I bought a PD trade-in Model 10-10 with 4" heavy barrel a few months ago and love it. I also have a Model 10-7 with 4" standard barrel and I prefer the feel of the HB version. The pics in the Bud's ad's are HB guns but the disclaimer says "photos do not necessarily represent the actual item" so if you order one it might be a good idea to ask if you're getting a standard barrel or heavy barrel.
That's a good price.

The Bud's ad says "This gun is not legal in California" Good Heavens ! ! What's illegal about a 4" .38 ?? Is it the pistol grip? Can't be the large magazine capacity! Any of you folks in the PRK know?

I would be so hosed of they did this on 2" 64's...

Probably not on the approved list. I just looked through the lists of approved, new and de-certified guns on their DOJ website. Talk about a mess! I can see why many gun sellers choose to say "No CA".

Sir the 4" Model 10 is not a rare revolver. I must admit that I believe there are many, many more Square Butt examples than Round Butt....I do not know the ratio. Either one is a joy to own and shoot. I purchased one of the 3" Model 10's from Bud's and was very pleased. I lean toward pinned barrel revolvers but I do own a 3" Model 65 non-pinned and there isn't a real difference....however, for years I believed there was. There are several decent deals on police/security trade-ins going on currently but the $269 shipped is a good price...hope this helps...

The model 10-14 4 inch is the only legal model 10 in California. The only legal S&W revolvers are with the internal lock.

How to?

How do you order? I assume you have to be in the VIP club to order now? Are they open on Sat.?

I used their online help line for new orders -- the guy didn't know about them but he looked them up -- Put 411545791 in their search box and thats where I ordered my round butt -- square butts have another number but if you ask you can find it -- Bud's is a good source -- I use them alot

California has a law that says any gun entering the State must be on the State approved list. To get on the list, the gun model has to (among other things) pass a drop/safety test. The law is specific in that its not just about a Model 10 or a 'Smith revolver design being on the list, but instead each dash version of every model would have to be drop tested. And what I heard was they will only accept the guns from the manufacturer, so even if we coughed up a 10-5 or a 19-2 for them to test they wouldn't accept it. So there are many vintage S&Ws that will never be allowed inclusion on the California State list of approved handguns.
Undoubtedly you'll sleep better when you think of all lives they are saving.
