Bud's Now Has 4" Model 10s

Howard;
I'm speechless ! Your post implies that all pre-IL Smith & Wesson revolvers are now illegal in Kalifornia ! Say it ain't so !

Larry

I just ordered one of the round butt versions last night and got an email that the order was being processed. I hate to buy un-seen but I couldn't resist the price. I haven't tried the VIP thing but have bought from Bud's before and been pleased.

I just hope this gun doesn't bark instead of shoot. I'll post back the results of what I get.

I also ordered a round butt version this morning, says order is being processed so they must have a few left at least. also were the round butts with the 4in.HB standard items or some dept. contract? will report back on what shows up.

IMO this isn't all that good a deal. I bought a 98% gun just a couple of weeks ago of a local trade site for this price plus the FFL Fee.

If you look around Mod 10's are still to be had for a good price.

That's pretty much how I feel about these Bud's guns. Factoring in CC fee, insurance and transfer, I'd be looking at $301. This is for a sight-unseen, "70%" 4" model 10. I'll stumble upon a better deal than that just doing my weekly rounds of the gun stores.

I'd agree but if you really want one now or local shops do have much in the way of revolvers. Some place just do seem to get much in the way of revolvers, much less a Smith.

You also might get a nice or a dud, its a roll of the dice.

As we call it, the used gun grab bag, you just stick you hand in and pull one out, you hope its a nice one. If not que the trombone, waaa waaa waaaaaa.

True as it may be, it also depends where you live. In McAlester Ok there are two gunstores, both part pawn shops to stay in business. If you have that extra cash for gas you can drive 2hr north to Tulsa, 3hr to OKC, or 2hr south to Dallas. So mail ordering is more common for me, unless I see something at one of the two stores mentioned!

They aren't illegal to own, just to import into California. You can still buy them from a private party within California. You just can't order one from out of state or ship them within state. It's not the lock that makes it so, it's the California safe gun roster. The manufacturer must submit a gun for testing and then pay a fee every year to keep the gun on the roster. Guns that are out of production usually fall off the list. They are listed by model so a 10-1 is different than a 10-2 even if the guns otherwise appear the same.

I think once the gun achieves C&R status the rules are different. Of course California has it's own rules for C&R also (I think).

To follow up, here are some pics of the gun I got from Bud's:

As you can see it's not perfect but it's a tight gun and I'm happy with it. The last 4 photos are with flash and bleached out a little. You can see some tape residue around the grip area - those are already cleaned off) and there are a few places lightly worn in the finish but it's basically a sound piece in my opinion.

The s/n is "CCS96xx" - anyone able to ID that or lead me to a s/n list so I can give it a birthday? Left side: the "Smith & Wesson" on the bbl and the insignia under the cylinder release - Right side: ou can see a sticker on the frame in front of the hammer that looks like a tiny bar code with "VPA00123" on it - other than that, ".38 Smith & Wesson Special Ctg" on the bbl and
"Made in U.S.A
Marcus Registradas
Smith & Wesson
Springfield, Mass."
just above and in front of the trigger guard.

One thing that'll have to be fixed - with the hammer cocked trigger is a true "hair trigger." I'll be shooting it double action anyway but I'm going to fix that or have it done.

That's my report - I have to admit I was expecting something in really bad shape and I was pleasantly surprised.

...and while I'm at it, I'll bet some of you experienced guys can point me to instructions for a trigger job on this model 10. I've done a lot of upgrades/modifications to my 1911's but never on a revo. I have time to do it, and I'll bet I can, if I can get some instructions.

I just placed my order for a square butt 10 from Bud's. It will be the 4th. gun that I have purchased from them. ( not Smiths) Sorry guys! Anyway, the 1 used gun that I bought was super clean as described. Have nothing bad to say about them. I'll put my C.T. laser grips on this. It will be a good companion to my 1905 4th. Change, and my 67 no dash. I hope that mine looks as good as jblackfish's. Bob

One more thing that I would like to add! I go to gun shops, and gun shows locally. I never see good Model 10's for $300.00. If you live in an area that has them, I envy you! Bob

Me too! Be sure and post back when you get it to let us know. As far as I know MOST of the people who have dealt with Bud's have been happy with the results. This is not my 1st buy from Bud's either but it's my first one of the "police trade-in" guns.

Pretty sure we can't have these shipped into Massachusetts.

Dammit

I'm a MA resident, and one of the fellows that works as a clerk in my favorite gun shop tells me that if it's made in MA, it doesn't need to be on the list. Whether or not this is always 100% true I can't say at this very moment, but I legally had a 629-2 transferred from another state to me recently, and that particular dash number isn't on 'the list,' but it all worked out totally approved. He mentioned that Dan Wessons aren't on the list, but can be transferred back into MA.

I really like the lines and shape of the model 10, and the way the extractor rod is 'on its own' under the barrel there. aaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm looking around the house to see what I can part with that might get me $300 D'oh!

Well, My round butt 10-10 came in today -- sorry no pictures -- It has a lot of blue wear but shows no sign of abuse -- Tight as a drum -- It should be a great shooter:D

I went and looked at this out of curiousity. Great deals for sure if you live in an area with few 'very few' gun shops.

I must have overlooked it, but what is Bud's shipping fee for these?

Shipping is included in the price. If you pay by credit card, they charge 3% of total.
