I know I'm not the only one on here that has bought the S&W M&P Bug out bag deal. Looking at this bag, Just what the heck are all the pockets, tie downs, elastic straps for? Which pocket do I put the gun in? Which one is for the 1st aid kit? :eek:Where do I put my lunch? If I utilize every pocket/strap on this bag, I won't be able to carry anything else.:D

I do not have one but with this type of bag the largest, most central pocket usually holds the gun. The first aid kit may fit in several places but better toward the outside, where it is easily accessed if needed.

Use your imagination for the rest of the features - magazines, flashlight, knife, earplugs, your stash of gold coins, breath mints. ;)

Depends on why you believe you need to "bug out".

I would think if you put that into practice your primary firearms would be on your person because something has gone very wrong. I guess you could store a spare firearm in there if you feel you need it.

as stated above you would have first aid kit, magazines, spare ammo, food source, water purifying equipment, maybe some rain gear, medications that you may need, etc.....

When I was on the street there were people that carried bug out bags that only had items in there like first aid kit, tourniquet, spare magazines for rifle and pistol, extra ammo, maybe a snack and bottle of water in case stuck somewhere for a longer period of time.

All depends on what you are bugging out from.

They are some Chinese bag designer's idea of what an American bug out bag ought to look like, after the concept was explained to him in English which he did not understand real well.

I have a half dozen "range bags" that I think were designed by the same guy. My usual approach is to use the little pouches and compartments that actually add value to my range experience and rip the rest out.

Change of underwear, liquid soap in small bottle, wash rag, small sharpening stone, small compass, small bottle of hydrogen peroxide, very small first aid kit, Ibuprofen. Several pairs of rubber gloves in a zip-loc bag. A few extra zip-loc bags are very handy if you have the room.
2 flashlights with spare batteries. One should be a head light.
TOILET PAPER Minimum of one roll. 3 is better. Mash them flat. Put in separate zip-loc bags.

You might better off to “ bug in “ for a while at times.

Being able to start a fire can be very important. I made a fire starter kit that includes strike anywhere matches wrapped in toilet paper and paraffin stored inside a pill bottle, bic lighter, cotton balls soaked with vaseline jelly in a baggie, some dryer lint in a baggie and maybe some other item as I am working from memory at the moment. It takes up very little room and it lightweight. Sootch00 has a good video for making fire starter kit.

That ain’t gonna come near to fitting in the bag we’re discussing . . .

I am not a fan of elastic on something I'm going to keep around for a long time. My pistol bags have pockets with velcro. No elastic loops for mags.

I used to have a back pack set up for a bug out bag, had all kinds of things that might be needed. thing weighed a ton and then i got too old to bug out and figured where the heck am i going to bug out. so i won't be goin nowhere cause all my needs are right here.

Those are for a person who is thinking about bugging out. He is thinking maybe I should have a bag with all the pockets and when I learn more about bugging out I will know what is supposed to go in the pockets and then he will have to do some thinking and research on exactly when to bug out and then do some thinking and research on where to bug out to. Obviously bugging out is not simple.
