Build Date on Model 36 Chief

Build date for a Model 36 chief ser#301627 and the build number is 79944 Solved part of the mystery about the thumbpiece on my Model 36 that I posted before. I need the build date of this weapon. Thanks to Smith and Wesson parts dept. was able to determine that the gun is older then 1964 and the bolt is different with a threaded hole rather than a threaded post. They suggested a place now the piece is on the way.I could use a build date in case of any more surprises.

SCSW says 1962: 295000, 1969: 786544. I would guess 1962-63.

Thanks hotrod 150 now the fun begins the bolt that was in it the one with a threaded hole not a post is from a earlier model,according to S&W parts that is why the thumbpiece did not fit.i am waiting for the right thumbpiece for the bolt from guns and gun parts.Hope it is right bolt. I have never opened the side on this one and had it reblued by S&W 20 yrs ago with my model 10. But this one was out of my control for the last few years so who knows Wouldn't be crazy if this bolt was in there for 49years.
