Well guys I have been wanting to build my own gun, but I don't have the money right now so I am just going to build an upper and keep my M&P15 Sport lower for now.

Anyways I just wanted to see if you guys could look over my list and see if I am missing anything and what else I should get. Also I know I will need some tools and little other things like that. Also any tips would be appreciated. :)

Spikes Tactical Upper Receiver- Forged M4 Flat Top (multi Cal) SFT50M4 $115

Yankee Hill 16" Threaded Chrome Lined Barrel YHM-47-T $200

Yankee Hill Low Profile Gas Block YHM-9383 $25

Yankee Hill Diamond Forearm YHM-9633-DX $155

Spikes Tactical Bolt Carrier Group - Spikes Standard MPI BCG (6.8) SP-ST5BG01 $185

Spikes Tactical BCM Gunfighter w/ Mod 3 Large Latch $45

Yankee Hill Black Plated Gas Tube YHM-BL-07A $20

Yankee Hill Forearm Barrel Nut YHM-9483 $30

Yankee Hill Phantom 5.56 Comp/Flash Hider YHM-28-5C2 $35

Thanks for the help guys!

Shop around. I looked up the barrel and found it for $184.

0) What gas length is the barrel. I recommend mid-length or longer.

1) On the gas block, why don't you get the YHM flip-up front sight?

2) You can get a quality BCG for a little more than half that price, and it would be a full-auto version (heavier, reduces felt recoil with the right buffer/action spring)

3) I have a Smith Vortex G6-A2 flash suppressor on one AR, and a BlackHole Weaponry Dragon Head muzzle brake on another. I like 'em both (neither require a lock ring).

Yeah those prices I had up there were retail prices. I plan on finding parts the cheapest I can get them.

I already have Magpul back up sights somewhere around here so I am just going to go with the low profile gas block.

I think the barrel has a mid length gas system, but Yankee Hills website doesn't specify. I need to look into that.

You should not put a plastic Magpul front sight on a gas block. It can melt. Also, unless that gas block is same plane, it won't put the front sight at the correct height.

Assembling an upper is not something you do in five minutes on the dining room table. It requires specific tools, torque values, and knowledge. Make sure you know exactly what you are doing before you spend all that money on parts and potentially wind up with a mess on your hands.

The magpul front flip up mounts on the rail.

I know what I'm getting myself into, and it is something I want to do. If I run into some issues I have one friend who is a gunsmith and my buddies uncle is a gunsmith that has worked with a lot of AR-15s.

I am a bit confused I suppose you'd say; Do you already have a Sport, and are looking to make a new upper to run on it? If so, then why change one 16" barrel for another 16" barrel? Were I building a different upper for the existing rifle, I'd go to either a much shorter barrel, or a longer one (20-24" for a different style of shooting.)

If you only have the lower, and need to build an upper, then I would say your list is pretty complete.

I have a complete rifle, but I want to change things up.

It may not make sense, but it's just something I want to do. I want a chrome lined fluted barrel, along with a free float rail. I plan on mounting a scope on one upper and having a red dot on another for shining at night.

This I completely understand; put a 20" barrel on it and a rifle length gas system. Utilize the different capability of the new assembly.

I built this upper from MidwayUSA. 300 Blackout and you don't need another Bolt carrier group.
