Buried near the bottom of this little essay about reloading for my Model 57 is a little shout-out to the great folks on this forum, expecially a fellow named J. Carter Taylor of Evansville, Ind.

Great article. Thanks for sharing!

I have had a lifelong love affair with the .41 Mag caliber and N frame large bore revolvers. My love affair with the .41 Mag played a major role in getting me into another lifelong affair, handloading.

In the late 1980's early 90's I landed a 6" 657. It was one my Dad wanted every bit as much as I did. My Dad kept it the majority of the time until his death in 1996.

After his passing it came back home to me. I kept it for several more years, but a friend with what I thought at the time had more money than sense made me an offer on it that I couldn't make myself turn down.

Compared with today's prices I let it go for peanuts. I'd love to find another 657 4" or 5" barrel at a price I could do without taking out a second mortgage.

The only .41 caliber I have at this time is identical to my first one. A 4 5/8" NM Blackhawk started it all.

Again, thanks for sharing the article that not only sheds light on a great combination, but also on the great members here on this site!

Wow! What a great and informative article. I am a new reloader and I have always loved the .41 magnum. I have a S&W 57 (4"), S&W 58 and a Ruger Blackhawk .41 (6 1/2"). I am going to give it a whirl with the 2400 and 215's I have on hand.

Thank you!

Another pretty good (but, not as good;)) article about the 41 Magnum in FIREARMS NEWS (March 2023 | Issue 6) by Patrick Sweeney, no less.

Just an FYI for all the Model 57/657 fans. It also mentioned some interesting info about the Blackhawk in 41 Magnum I had never heard before (teaser)...

Cheers!

I've been shooting and loading 41's for 4 decades. I concur with everything in this article, including the comment about this forum.I still shoot close to maximum loads, but I have shot 220 gr LSWC's over 16.5 of 2400 for most of those years and My top load has always been that same bullet with 19.6 of H110.

Great article. I'm also a big .41M fan, have a 6" M57 and a M58 that get a fair amount of range time, and I reload for both. I've stayed away from full-power rounds, as there are no elephants or rhinos around to worry about, and my increasingly arthritic hands are thankful.

One question related to a comment you made: Just how many MOA of hold-over do you need at 600 yards to get on target with a 6" .41M? :D

Believe it or not I have never shot a 41 Magnum. I have always thought it was a good cartridge. Too bad it came along at the time law enforcement was switching over to semi-autos. From what I know it was developed with them in mind.
