Went to the following link today and surprise. Their burn rate chart is some different than what I am accustomed to. Way different. Titewad being faster than N1? Bullseye, 231 and Titegroup at the same burn rate?

I guess they are measuring differently. Maybe they are saying something worth listening. Maybe.............?

Chnaging the test procedures (amount, degree of confinement) will give different relative burn rate, especially comparing single and double based powders.

Burn rate charts are interesting, but useless for actual reloading of specific loads.

I do like the VV chart because its more of a scattergram than the usual serial rating thing which doesn't show powders with the same burn rate very well.
This type of burn rate chart is very interesting to me when I think about which powders I might like to try. The relationship between powders becomes more clear.
VV 330 through N105 are clustered very tightly on their chart and that is my experience.

Yes I can agree with what your saying because the conventional list says nothing about how much faster #5 is to #10. It may be a near draw in the overall scheme.

However, their method of measuring is sure different such as Titewad being faster than R1.

I think that what I'm really pointing to here is if you are, for example, using Bullseye (#6 normally) for a load and want to try something slower, then Titegroup (listed at #12 normally) is not a choice on the VV chart as it's the same burn rate as Bullseye and W231.

Confused info suggesting no direction.

Bob;
Yes, When I look at the VV information for fast powders, I see Titegroup, Bullseye, AA 2, Clays, Red Dot, 231, & N 320 all fairly closer together. Now if all things were equal (which they certainly are not!) we could expect similar results from them.
If I had the facilities I would run a little experiment where I compared the same charge of each, starting at mid-point (4.5gr?), behind a 230 gr .45 and examined pressure curves, vel., and accuracy. Then jump .5 gr, and do it over, increasing in steps and dropping powders as I hit arbitrary pressure limits Then run again with 200gr H&G 68.
Then try the same experiment with .357.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone would furnish me the facilities?
Roger.
