I don’t think this has been posted just seen this else where.

His manager, Erik Kritzer, confirmed Reynolds’ death to The Hollywood Reporter, saying he passed away Thursday morning at Jupiter Medical in Florida.

A former college football player who took up acting after an injury cut short his playing career, Reynolds spent a decade taking on bit roles in Hollywood before breaking through with roles in some of the biggest films of the decade, including “Deliverance,” “The Longest Yard” and — the movie he’s best known for — “Smokey and the Bandit.”

I did enjoy his movies he was a good actor.....may he Rest In Peace .....

Sad to hear.

Cannonball Run was corny and hoaky but it produced one of my favorite scenes.

Dom had just "stolen" Jack Elam as they needed a doctor for their ambulance. Burt said to Jack: "You're a doctor?"

Jack: "I'm a proctologist."

Burt: "Where's your bag?"

Jack, (who whips out his middle finger and slaps it under Bert's nose): In my line of work I rarely need more than this."

On a childhood trip to Florida in the 1970's I encountered a guy in a donut shop who looked exactly like Burt Reynolds. Turned out it really was him. His career was about to peak at that point in time, the year was 1977.

He was cast as George Spahn in the upcoming Tarantino film Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which revolves around the Manson murders. Looks like they didn’t shoot his scenes yet, which is a shame. Sorry to see him go - he was a fixture of my early movie-going.

Kinda weird. Just last night wife and I were watching one of the Johnny Carson DVDs we just bought and (a young) Burt was a guest. We had both wondered out loud at the time if he was still alive. We didn't google to find out. Now this news the following day!

I never actually met Burt but did see him from a distance a time or two. I think I worked a detail for one of his movies, or they were filming in my zone, I don't remember. Did alarm calls at one of his houses a couple of times but he wasn't there. That's as close to fame as I've gotten.

Well I did do a couple of presidential details but never saw the pres other than a car going by. Oh wait, I did respond to a couple of calls involving Davy Jones. And took an entry fee from Dick Cavett while a park ranger. Darn I'm old, but I think I'm in good company here ;)

Loved him on Gunsmoke, remember seeing him on 12 o'clock high, and can't remember how many times I have watched and loved Smokey and the Bandit. Also did a tv show I liked called Evening Shade. Rip and thanks for the good times

Funny thing I just watched Smoky and the Bandit the other night.....

Once he made Deliverance in 1972, his future was pretty much assured. I had read the book, and was convinced making a film from James Dickey's novel would have been almost impossible...but they pulled it off.

He made a lot of films. Some really good, others were clunkers, but his body of work is impressive, especially when you include his television work.

I liked him in Deliverance, The Longest Yard, and Sharky's Machine. And of course, Smokey and the Bandit.

Last time I saw him live on television, he looked very very frail and very aware of his own mortality.

Rest In Peace, Burt Reynolds.

I was born in 1972 so I wasn't aware of his entire body of work when it was new, but suffice to say that as a kid of the 80's, Burt Reynolds was a legend in our time. I've obviously seen Deluverance many times and all the fun movies as well.

I'd like to give a shout-out for his performances in later movies also, particularly Boogie Nights and Mystery Alaska where I think he was extremely strong in smaller roles.

A giant is gone.

...they've been replaying this one lately...an early one for Burt...

...sorry to see him go...his passing does make me feel old...

While I enjoyed Deliverance, Mr. Reynolds was not one of my favorite actors. I'm sorry that he has passed and may he rest in peace.
