Burwell Gunsmithing M&P 40

Anyone send there M&P to Burwell recently. Curious what the slide melt and refinish cost and is the trigger job really nice.

However, that's the only negative I've ever heard about them in the eight or so years I've been aware of him.

You can use an Apex DCAEK kit to clean up the trigger - either DIY or find a local smith (or let Apex do it) - for about $100, not including shipping. DIY is not "anybody can do it", but not that difficult, either.

(I don't claim to be a gunsmith, but I've done three. Getting the grips back on the right side of a gun is about as much as I can guarantee....)

I don't think a melt job would do much, but YMMV....

I think Burwell's got a web site, too.

Thanks for the Reply, I checked the website and they don't have prices listed for the Melt job or the refinish, just the trigger job. (I did send a e-mail but no response yet. I'm interested in the melt job on my 40C since the gun is a little thick. Pictures on the site make it look pretty nice.

I have the apex parts on my Shield and they are very nice but I have read that the Burwell trigger is phenomenal.

Instead of just typing "use search" maybe just type nothing. There is no recent Burwell threads and the ones that do come up are peppered into other modification threads. Maybe next time be a little more helpful and just not type anything if you don't have anything to say.

With that said I think the op would just be better off buying the Apex parts or sending it into someone like Cold Bore Customs or Atei. It would probably be faster. I would also send an email to Mr. Burwell to see what his work load is like.

I was actually trying to be helpful, I didn't wan't to search through all those to pick the pertinent info out. Nice of you to come to his rescue though. I'm done with that part of this. Look into Business End Customs. He has a great reputation in the 1911 world and M&P's. That's where mine is going for the carry package

Don't waste your Money on all that melt Stuff. What for? I understand on a 1911: But a polymer Gun? JMO I have an M&P 40 probably one of the first made when they first came out. I sent it off to Burwell for a Trigger job for carry. It's been a Great Gun. Very smooth Trigger Job. But that was a few years ago before he got so busy. But these days you can do the same thing with an apex Kit. I just did an M&P Core with an FSS Kit. Just get a 1/8 punch -Which is the same size as the back strap punch: Don't use that though you may damage the polymer end. Spend $5 and Buy a nice 1/8 punch and about 6$ for a small Tap hammer- Also Buy the APEX POLYMER ARMORER BLOCK (watch video how do use it.) then Buy the Proper kit for what you want the gun for. I'd never done one before but it was a piece of Cake. Not really any harder then installing an aftermarket AR trigger. The key to making it a simple job is to BUY A TINY LITTLE TAP HAMMER_Don't use a full size hammer it makes it harder. Then watch the video and pay attention to how you took it apart. All you are doing is interchanging the Apex Parts for the Stock parts . If you are the slightest bit handy you can do it. I assure you.

If you send the Gun out-Depending on the Trigger job. It's going to cost you at least 200.00 . Shipping both ways is 1/2 your cost. Not that you will save any money buying an Apex Kit and tools-But you'll get your order from APEX in 3 days tops and even if you're slow 2 hrs to install. Once you've done one it's maybe a 20 minute job. It's rather rewarding once you have done one to know you need no smith. Plus you'll have the tools for other gun Projects. A dental pick also comes in handy but not really needed-

If you get stuck call APEX and they will walk you through it. Once you know the name for the parts it's really a very simple job. Don't let anyone tell you it hard. I have done a Glock and the M&P is easier IMO: Like I said pay attention to how things come apart: It would also help if a buddy has an M&P you can occasionally look at to reference. Good Luck.

My first M&P 45 went Burwell. Action turned out great and turnaround was pretty decent, but that was about 6+ years ago. I got the same results from an Apex kit and polishing the right places, cheaper too.

This early 40c went to Burwell's shop right after I totally buggered-up the slide while attempting to install a front night sight with a borrowed pusher tool. It was real bad. In this case the melt treatment was necessary. While there he did his duty trigger job and stippling. This was in 2006. I love this gun. Some people say it's customized, good luck selling it but I have no such intention.

Darn shame if he isn't. My Burwell Plastic M&P is my favorite non-1911.
I haven't seen two Acme Baggie jobs come out the same.
