I’ve been laughing about this for hours, so I thought I’d share…

Back story: I’ve seen some mice in our garage lately. They sneak in around the edge of the overhead door bottom seal. Last weekend I bought some sticky traps and deployed them just inside the door on each end. Within 24 hours, I had caught 4 mice and I haven’t seen any since. The Mrs. knew about my success, but didn’t want to know the gory details.

I stopped her from feeding birds a few years ago, because it was attracting mice and chipmunks and they were getting into the garage. She had a bunch of leftover black oil sunflower seeds in a metal garbage can with a metal lid. I put a bungee cord over the lid so the vermin couldn’t get into it. I didn’t know it, but she put the seeds in a garbage bag about a month ago and planned to give them away. Instead of putting the bag back in the can, she put a twist tie on the bag and set in on the garage floor.

This morning: The Mrs. was outside putting away her garden stuff and I was inside cleaning up the kitchen. She walked in and barked out, “DUDE”!!!

I turned and looked at her. She was wearing her Carhartt jacket, gloves and a watch cap and was holding the broom we keep in the garage. She had her other hand on her hip. She was trying to look PO’d, bit I could tell it was all she could do not to laugh.

I was really tempted to say, where you flying off to, but I wisely kept my mouth shut. She broke out laughing and asked if I’d been killing mice with the end of the broom handle. BUSTED!!!

I didn’t want the little rodents to suffer a slow and lingering death, so I bludgeoned their little mice brains in with the end of the handle. Yup, I should have cleaned the stick stuff and the mouse blood off before I put it away. :o

Happy Thanksgiving to all, except the rodents! ;)

You gotta clean the scene. What if C. S. I. K. E. Y. M. O. U. S. E. traced it back to you?:D

Several years ago we got mice in the kitchen pantry and failed to trap them. #3 Son came home on leave from the U.S. M. C.. He found out the mice problem from one of His five brothers. Unknown to Mom and Dad He obtained a flashlight and a .25acp pistol. One night He waited in the pantry and solved our mice problem.

Episode 2: We had racoons coming into the garage though the roof vent at night. Same Son (USMC) solved this problem with a flashlight and a Model 1911 .45acp.

After Episode 2 I told my Wife " What ever You do do not let #3 Son know about the neighbor who is giving us problems."

In the back corner of my yard is a storm drain. Every fall I have a issue with rats coming up out of there and getting into the house. They're looking for a warm place to spend the winter.
I set a bunch of traps. Most are too smart for jaw traps, but I do pretty well with strategically placed glue traps.
Like you, I don't like to let the caught rats suffer. It could take days for them to die in a glue trap. So I put them out of their misery quickly. My preferred tool is one of those small souvenir baseball bats. Very similar to a billy club. Generally, one quick bash gets the job done.
This is my rat bat. Its used for no other purpose.

I catch ground squirrels with peanut butter and dog food, in a Have A Hart trap. 16 so far this year. Needless to say, they don't leave the premises alive.

There are enough of them in the neighborhood to feed a large family of hawks.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

My wife has NEVER called me DUDE. Her pet name for me is a two syllable word that starts with an A and ends in hole
I have a 30x50 metal building out back, my man cave/hiding from the little missus workshop. She had a "Street Sign" made up that hangs over the entrance door that says: A-- Holes Garage". She loves me, 38 years now....😁

Never had a rat or mouse problem. Once upon a time my wife called me at the office. Quote, "They've got a snake!!!" I think I set the record for the 440 crossing Hwy. 36 and getting up the hill to the parsonage. Ran into the house and grabbed my revolver and ran on through and out the back door. My wife was pointing at the steps. There our two Siamese cats had cornered a copperhead. He was so tired from trying to hit first one and then the other that he could hardly lift his head. I think giving him a dose of lead to ease he exit from this mortal coil was an act of mercy. My wife ... she simply gathered up the cats and asked me to clean up the mess. Oh well. sincerely. bruce.

00 Buck works good on most garage squatters.

I was working day shift one morning and was dispatched to a Councilman's home as he had a skunk in his garage. I told him to leave the door open and it would leave, but he insisted I shoot it. I said ok, grabbed the 870 and told him that once I shot it, he was responsible for getting rid of it and cleaning up the mess and smell, and fixing the holes in the siding.:) He stopped me and said he would leave the door open.:D

In my first house I had a mouse problem. I could see them running around in my living area. I didn't look at it as a serious problem until they started using my silverware tray as a bathroom. Then I declared war. I found where I thought they were coming in and blocked it off. A couple of spring loaded jaw traps took care of the problem.

I thought about breaking out a .22 with shot or a pellet gun, but I’m in a subdivision… My billiard skills and the broom seemed like the best option.

I did promise not to do it again, but my fingers were crossed! ;)

A mousegun (pun intended) and a few of these

is a much more interesting and fun solution.
The bullet is pretty close to the weight of your standard airgun pellet and the mousefart (pun also intended) load behind it means they aren't much louder than a high powered pellet gun. At 560fps the ballistics are about the same too.

Well, my story isn't so much about mice in the house, this story is about RATS.

When I was still working patrol on the mids shift, especially in the winter months, when we would get off work at night, when it came time to get into our personal cars, we would have to take our night sticks, and beat on the tires to flush/scare out the rats from under the hood of our cars.

The rats would get up under the hood to get on the top of the motor when we parked them to stay warm.

Now the fun times was to see other coppers and myself too I suppose, chasing around the parking lot after sewer rats with our night sticks trying to club them..Those sewer rats are big!!!!!

You see our assembly was in the part of town that was fairly close to the slaughter houses, and the sewer rats were everywhere.

More than once, when I went to start my car, and I'd get the ole thump, thump, bang and a scream, when one would get tangled with the fan blade.

"Take that, you dirty rat".

It's good to be retired!!!!!

Years ago my missus spotted a mouse in the house and demanded I do something so I grabbed the closest weapon,my sons wiffle bat. Bonk-squeak,bonk-squeak all over the house. She was not amused

ROTFL... I spewed some coffee over that one. In my mind I see some guy running around huffing and puffing while flailing a wiffle bat at some terrified squeaky mouse.

I guess the old saying "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" has a corollary:

Don't bring a wiffle bat to a mouse fight!

We put sticky traps in my daughters garage a couple years back. Next day my daughter called asking me what to do. Four mice on one sticky trap. I told her to throw everything in a bucket of water. Done and jackpot!!

That’s exactly how it went 😂

That was ex-Mrs. Beemerguy's surname for me when we were going through our divorce. Her first name for me then would get me banned here... ;)

(That was many years ago...we're on decent terms now. :) )
