Buying a Glock 17 because I cant find M&P mags

When I can find some full size 9mm mags I'll run them both through their paces.

Like the title says, they are there if you look for them. I got a 9L Core for Fathers day. It came with two mags. I found one at Quantico Tactical last week ($30), and I was looking at GB (seeing the $100 and up prices kinda glazed my eyes) then I spotted a 17 round mag with a couple of hours left on the auction and there were no bids on it, so I popped a $50 bit figuring I didn't have a chance. Next day I got an email saying I'd won the auction. Seems like a lot to pay for a mag but when I considered the current availability at most places and the prices I'm happy with it. Here's a pic of the new one.

yeesh, is that the going rate for full size mags? $50 a mag?! That would put a hurt on my wallet. Even paying over $40 for my Shield 9mm Extended Mag made me cringe. The price gouging is atrocious in the firearm industry, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. Shame.

Actually $50 is on the cheap side, just this last week there was a guy selling them in the "for sale" section of this site for $61 each and he sold out quickly. On GB they're typically at the $90.00 mark and people are still bidding, Everywhere else says "out of stock, don't know when we will get any". I lucked into the Quantico Tactical deal at 29.99, only ordered 1, should have ordered 2, then I wouldn't have been buying the $50.00 mag. Now I feel set to wait out the magazine shortage and can focus my attention on shooting (and looking for reloading components)

man, i couldn't justify myself paying those prices for mags. $50, maybe. but if people are paying $90 for a magazine, i guess they have some serious money to burn. i don't see where there is $50 worth of material in a magazine, let alone $90. but, people will buy it if there is a demand, no matter the price. i could say i'm in the same boat as some people as i highly overpayed for my Shield, but it's the first one i've seen in my area and i knew they were hard to come by so i jumped on it. hopefully things will settle down in the next couple months (wishful thinking).

S&W mags are like an XDS. You walk in the store and they are just sitting there on the shelf.

The ones that seem to me getting hard to find "again" are the Shield 9mm mags. My LGS has had tons of them in stock through all the BS. Now i walk in today and there isnt many Shield 9mm mags sitting on the shelf anymore.

I think it depends on the location. MY local shops have Shields and XDS sitting on the shelves. They have no FS mags (9mm especially) , but plenty of Shield mags.
