Got a call that 2 Shields were in early last April at my LGS. Told them to hold one I'd get it after work. Sight un-seen. # in the low 2000's. Had zero problems and a great LGS. Pays being a regular. Owner saw them at one of the earlier shows and new I'd want one. He was right. Love it.

In addition, I treated the double recoil spring and guide rod with Frog Lube to eliminate any possibility of binding

Interesting. Did you use the liquid or the paste? How much? Have you noticed a difference?

Reason I ask is I haven't shot my Shield yet and man is that spring ridiculously tight

I have not bought one yet on waiting list at LGS for a 40 Shield but once they call me will be first time I've seen one live.

The first Shield I bought was sight unseen. I checked Gun Genie the day they were released, not expecting to find any, but to my utter amazement, they had 8...and that number was dropping as I watched, so I bought it.

I came across two more at local shops (not on the same day) so I bought them. I was looking for the second one...the third one was a total impulse buy. I didn't need it...but when I saw it, I just bought it. I recently sold it to a forum member here.

Did you actually see them in stock on the website? Or did you have to call?

They were in stock on the website. Someone here put out the notice and I looked and they showed in stock. They didn't last more than a couple hours. They were in stock the next week again. Seems like mondays around 10am central time. I keep checking when I think of it but haven't seen them lately. If I do I'm grabbing two of them (the limit you can buy at LE discount).

I happened to become interested in CC at about the time the Shield came out, and after reading the early Forum posts about it as well as the Guns and Ammo article -- and being owner of a Smith and Wesson product already -- I ordered a Shield 40 from my LGS after handling the blue plastic model. This was in late April.

When it was taking a while (ultimately, June) for that one to come in, I got on the list at another LGS figuring to keep the first to arrive and sell the second, which was what I did, to a member on this Forum. I paid MSRP for mine and about $420 for the other as I recall.

My 40 was the first one to arrive at my LGS, so I was kinda stoked about that.:D Both it, and the one I sold, have been absolutely trouble free, and by now I'm about 1,200 rounds downrange and counting.

Shield 9

I was lucky enough last spring to enter my local candy store and they just go t one in. It was sold, but I got to look it over and that was it. I really liked the grip and the way it was put together. Ordered one on the waiting list they had. Got the call a week later and was at the store to pick it up the next day.
I have not regretted any part of that decision. It has about 500 flawless fired rounds through it. Worked the trigger down to about 3.5 lbs and that made a really good gun perfect for me.
I carry it or my 642 depending on the situation.

Bill
