I am just a little confused on all of the configurations. I am buying a full size, with a 4 1/4" barrel and I am guessing they didn't used to make a pro model unless you got the 5" barrel but now you can get the pro model in a 4 1/4" barrel. Would that be correct? Can you get any sight config. on a pro model now? Just not sure which way I want to go. In other words if it's worth the extra cash to go pro. Thanks.

Yep, S&W lists quite a number of variations… and the pro series is sort of confusing. The 5" comes with front fiber sights, while the 4.25 comes with night sights. There is no mag safety or trigger safety on both models…which is fine for me as I use this pistol for target shooting.

Pro models "claim" to have a lighter trigger pull. While I find it gritty, and a bit of creep, it's a fine shooter. If your purchase is motivated by range time, it's a VERY nice 9…

Ammo… I've used MagTech, Federal (American Eagle), Winchester, and Rem… all work the same. I'm a clean nut, so I break down things after the day…and I do go through 500+ rounds per session. The Pistol works always unless it's a squib round… it does partially jam on eject… no biggie.

So are there any known issues (problems) with the pro models that the originals didn't have? I know I want the full size, but with the 4.25 barrel. and I'm pretty sure I want the night sights. Just don't know if I should get the pro model or not.

To the best of my knowledge, the Pro "versions" have a 4-5 1/2 lb trigger pull over 6+ and no integral safety level. I went with the Pro 5" because I wanted a longer barrel and fiber sights. That's how it worked out for me.

I have thousands of rounds through mine... works as expected.

thanks for the help. Bought the pro full size (4.25 barrel) last night. Thanks again!
