Buying an M&P9c, not excited.

Hey all. So I'm in the market for a new compact gun and have all but settled on the M&P9c. For some reason though, I'm not excited at all. I just can't explain it. I need a compact 9mm for concealed carry, sized in between my Ruger LCP and my FNH FNX-9. I own a full size M&P45 so I'm familiar with, and like, the platform and the only other gun in that glass that like is the XD Mod 2.0, but it's not quite as comfortable in my hand as the M&P. I'm usually excited when buying a new gun. This time not so much.

I see three possible scenarios here:

1. You'll buy the thing, continue to be really unenthusiastic about it and end up selling it and probably losing money on it in the process.

2. You'll buy it, it'll grow on you, and you'll come to love it.

3. After really thinking about how unexcited over the gun you are, you'll decide against buying it and look at other guns.

You didn't ask for opinions, but here's mine anyway: Don't buy it.

I agree with Watchdog.
If the 9c doesn't excite you, find something that does and you'll be happy on the way home.
I have a 9c, a 40c and a 45c, and if they made a 46c, I'd have that too.

Yeah, I'd have to say hold off as well. If you're not "feeling it", then maybe you haven't found the right one yet and should keep looking. Since youre familiar with FHN, have you looked at the FNS compact. Looks like a pretty nice little gun with sizes comparable to the M&P. Just a thought.

I guess I love my 9c so much, I can't fathom someone not liking it. But if you don't like it, don't get it.

It's a tool. You don't have to be excited.

If it does the job you need it to... then all the boxes are ticked.

Well here is the thing, I've really looked long and hard at a lot of guns in that class some I like some I don't, but none of them excite me. I guess I like the 9c the best. Lets run down the list of characters. I kinda feel like I'm settling.

SR9c: I previously owned one hated the sights and the center blade on the trigger.
XD Mod 2.0: Feels pretty good in the hand but $100 more than the M&P9c
XDm 3.8" 9mm: Feels pretty good but again $100+ more than the M&P9c
FNS-9c: Good option but too tall in the grip at 5.2"
Glock: is out of the question
Shield : not lefty friendly
XDs 9mm: Feels too thin in the hand.
Walther PPS: Great, except for the stupid mag release
H&K P2000SK: more than I want to spend

What else is there? Gotta be 9mm, lefty friendly, and available with 10 round mags.

I was in the same boat,
Was looking for a smaller carry pistol, wanted a shield but couldn't find one immediately available. No M&P compacts either. Found a Glock 26 but wasn't "excited about it" but bought it anyway. Wound up trading it straight up at a lgs. I took a hit but got the gun I really wanted and couldn't be happier.
Hold out and find what you really want.

Why not go old school and try a 3rd Gen 3913, or a 6906? I can tell you for sure- I get all tingly when I see one in the "used" case!

I lived in Springfield Ma. from Jan 2000 till Jan 2002. I shot at the S&W indoor range on a weekly basis and shot every model semi they had, I never liked any of them.

Don't laugh but have you thought about the taurus pt 111g2? I have one and its awesome. I haven't had a single issue with it. I alternate between it and my shield 9.

I bought an M&Pc it is the only gun that I regreted buying almost immediately, could not shoot it it was hard to conceal, sold it about a month later, sad part is I felt like you going in to it. It also had some function problems which made it easier to accept the financial loss.

Why couldn't you shoot it? Why was it hard to conceal? What function problems?

I'm a lefty and I feel your pain. Lefty friendly guns are not common, but not unheard of.

Sig Pxxx and Glocks are lefty unfriendly. They can be manipulated by a lefty, but there are better out there.

I really like the H&K line. I own a USP compact and it's a marvelous little gun. I switched mine to the V2 control lever and it's perfect for a lefty. They are a little pricey, but worth it.

The M&P guns are the best on the market for lefties.

Having said that, I prefer the 1911. The guns are easy to manipulate as a lefty with a little thought and practice. I highly recommend you shoot one just to see.

As far as being excited, meh, it matters not to me. I don't need to be excited to like a new pistol.

Just wondering if you've had a chance to shoot the -9c yet? Not just a couple of magazines through one, but maybe 100 rounds or so. I bought one for my Wife (June of last year), and actually think it's a great pistol. When I take it to the range I find that it's very easy to control and comfortable to shoot. I've also carried it a couple of times and find it very concealable. My primary CCW is a Glock 27, but for some reason the -9c actually sits better against my side. I don't think you'll be disappointed - HOWEVER, it's your money and your choice. If you have a predisposition against the -9c I don't know there's much you can do to overcome that.
