I just had delivered 250 rounds of BVAC 44 Magnum, 240 gr SWC hard cast. This is supposed to be a moderate load of around 900 fps, which I guess is roughly about the same as some of Elmer Keith's hot 44 Special loads.

Anyone tried this stuff? Quality looks good. All new brass. And reasonably priced.

I've only ever tried 2 calibers of BVAC ammo, both on a group buy.

Some friends and I participated in a local forum's group buy on their ammo. We split 3,000 rounds of 9mm and 4,000 rounds of 5.56x45mm.

The first time I took the 9mm out I was shooting at my steel knockdown targets and dueling trees with my Glock 19. I seemed to be having a bad day, missing a lot. So, I switched over to my 9mm carbine, which has always been quite accurate for me, and I was still seeing a lot of misses. So, I got out some paper targets to see what was going on, and I could barely achieve what one would describe as a "group". There was evidence of a lot of keyholes. So I dug out a box of another brand of 9mm, and my accuracy returned to normal. This BVAC exhibited the worst accuracy of any 9mm that I've witnessed.

After checking with my friends, they expressed the same opinion. Rather than waste any more time or effort on this, we lumped our ammo together and sold it on our local forum. Since ammo prices had jumped in the meantime, we were able to break even on our purchase.

While the 5.56 ammo seemed to be ok, I don't see me buying any more BVAC ammo. Another member on my local forum says he shoots BVAC .45 Colt and .44 Magnum, and he's quite happy with it. Maybe they just have problems with their 9mm.
