Does anyone know the procedure for renewal of a C&R license? Will the BATFE send me a renewal form in the mail or is it totally my responsibility to get the proper form and send in before the expiration date?

Thanks,

Mike

They sent me the forms a coupe months before old lic exp. I mailed them back with my check. They cashed my check well before my old license expired but did not send me a new c&r license. ATF acknowledged my renewal payment was timely and sent me a letter of authorization. Several phone calls and letters later, over the last year and 1/2, I'm still operating on a letter of authorization. Now my phone calls go into voice mail and I've yet to have one returned. I think it was just my bad luck.

They send you a notice a couple months ahead of time, along with a form to be completed. You send it in with the money, and a copy to your police chief. My last renewal took about 6 weeks to get new license back, just last year. Wish they would have 5 yr (or longer) renewals instead of just 3 year.

I've renewed mine 3 times and never had a problem. Took the renewal notice, returned it with a check, and updated license showed up in 4 to 6 weeks.

Somehow my last renewal package got lost. Either in the mail or the clutter of my desk. Didn't notice that my license expired. Called BATF a week after and was told I need to start over with new application.

As everyone has already said, they send a renewal form. I did mine last year, took about three weeks to receive my new license. I will say that the envelope the renewal form was in looked an awful lot like junk mail and I almost shredded it with the junk but something made me look inside.

IIRC the return address on the envelope was simply a PO box in Atlanta. I don't recall any sort of name with the address which is why I believed it to be junk mail.

thanks for all the responses and especially the heads up on what to look for. i have until the end of march so will look for it beginning of the new year.

update

I have since received my renewal form and am now taking care of it.

Since I don't recall how I obtained some of the original information I am asking a few questions that might seem silly. Bear with me please.

1. How is the quickest way to find the name/title/address of my nearest CLEO?

2. On the Certification of Compliance form(ATF F 5330.20) for question number 2 am "I" the one who is the person certifying to citizenship? I know that sounds dumb but just want to make sure they are not asking me to sign in front of a notary.

Thanks to all.

Mike

Mike
Phone book.
In a city, the Chief of Police.
In the county, the Sheriff.
Do NOT dial 911. Find the office number.
