My Dad passed away and left me his s&w .38 revolver. The serial number on the butt is C 987005. Can anyone give me any information on this revolver. This gun has less than 100 rounds shot thru it in its lifetime and in really good condition. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum! My condolences for the loss of your Dad. It sounds like you've probably inherited a Model 10-6 (.38 Military & Police) that was manufactured in 1967, but it could also be one of several other K-frame models (Model 12-2, or Aircrewman). Yours is one of the last in the C-prefix series, which changed to the D-prefix series in 1968. Some models and variations are much more rare and valuable than others, so we really need some additional information to help you ID your revolver. What is the length of the barrel? Are there any other markings on the grip frame or in the cylinder yoke area when the cylinder is swung open (Model no.)? Is the barrel stamped ".38 Special CTG"? If you could post a couple of pictures that would help immensely.

1967 is correct. In that period, it could be either a Model 10-5 or Model 10-6, depending on the barrel profile. If you open the cylinder and look on the frame in the yoke cut, you will see MOD followed by the model number 10-5 or 10-6.
