C96 loads

Just picked up some dies for 30 mauser 7.63x25 and 308 85 grain bullets and was wondering if anybody knows of any loads. I have some in my hornady 8th edition but my speer 12 and nosler 6 show nothing.

I think the Lee reloading manual has some info. As well the Lyman Pistol and Revolver manual. Cartridges of the World has a wee bit. That off the top of my head, there's likely more.

When I started loading this round the easiest way to get Boxer primed brass was to modify .357 Mag cases!

I found some in the lyman 49th ad looks like they use a reg small pistol primer and my cases are regular brass.

One tip, start low and work up slowly until the action operates consistently. My barrel extension was bowed by factory 9mm ammo. The barrel extension is a lot weaker than you would think.

My path forward is to load special super weak 9mm for my C96 that will just barely operate the action. I shot some 9mm yesterday just to free up the brass so I could do so.

I loaded 200 with 90 grain cast RN in brass formed from 223 about 20 years ago. I used a light charge of WW 231 , WSP. I believe data came from Lyman #45 or 46. Most of these guns are coming up on a century old use care and respect. Ivan

Just be careful and don't mix up with the 7.62x25 ammo or loads

This is my toy. I found the stock carved with a dragon online for $300 about 10yrs ago. Thanks for the info...my dies and bullets should be here soon. I was going to buy some ammo at $20/box but what the heck, may as well load it myself as dies and 100 bullets only came to $55.

Slug the bore, you may find it is closer to .312 than .308.

Check the spring within the bolt. C96s frequently compress and weaken this spring. Wolff has replacements.

I have put 150+ rounds through it and its flawless.
