I no longer live in CA, but I imagine not having mags over 10 rounds and keeping it semi auto and not full auto should do the trick. I am sure others will let you know if I am wrong.

New laws just went into effect on Jan 1. Best you check what they say.

If you got it in the condition it is, I wouldn't alter it and risk breaking a silly unknown law.

Cliff notes: magazine capacity and NFA laws, for the most part, are the two areas you don't want to experiment with. Rimfires are exempt from the stupid California "assault weapon" laws.

Thanks for the rules clarification BigWaylon, but I'm not takin any of my firearms there, don't trust them and don't have the funds to find out if I can win or not, lol
No problem. There are a lot of people out there that don't know about FOPA.

The transportation/safe passage section of the Firearm Owner's Protection Act states:

Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

So, if you're legal in the origin and destination, you're legal to pass through other areas.

From a little research on FOPA it looks like some states and cities (NJ, NY, Chicago, etc) only allow it as a defense. It isn't used in the day to day operations of police officers. In other words they can arrest you and then you can be let out later using FOPA as a defense.
That's true (unfortunately). I also believe that if you're not doing anything else stupid, the day-to-day operations issue won't come into play. ;)

Taking every opportunity to bash certain states really isn't helpful to people living in those states.

Reach way down and come up with a little more class, people.
