I was at the Cabela's in Rogers, Arkansas yesterday. Signage has been replaced with Bass Pro, yeah, they have a small Cabela's on one side. One of the clerks said they changed a couple weeks ago and more changes on the way.
And yes all guns have trigger locks with only a hand full of
revolvers, even in the used display case.

I was in Cabelas Monday looking at pistols. Trigger locks which had not been the case in the past. Wanted to try the trigger, can you remove the lock? Nope, can't do it. Guy on Texas asked to see a pistol loaded it and shot himself was the story told. So now all locked up.

I'm going to use up all my points(or my wife will) and probably just stay away. All kind of stupid. BP bought Cabela's just to get rid of the competition anyway...oh and the stores. The local(Billings) store has changed quite a bit with less area for the shooting sports

I went to the Lonetree Cabelas last month after a follow-up on My eye. It's becoming a Bass Pro Shop. No longer stocking a lot of what Cabelas had, and remodeling almost everywhere. I walked around and picked up some smoker stuff and checked out. Told the guy at checkout I would no longer be back as Bass Pro is less than three miles from Me and Sportsman Warehouse is the same distance as Cabelas.

Never really liked the place so I’m not going to miss them.
Never interested in their name brands and they never really had any good gun deals as the local gun shops do!
So long Fair well!......;)

The short answer to the OP's question is: Yes, they are going away. The combining of the two brands will continue until everything is under the BP umbrella and then some of the stores (as is happening already) will close. Especially in areas that have several of each. BP was the smaller of the two organizations and had a smaller amount of money owed to its creditors. It was able to take over by agreeing to take over Cabela's unpaid bills. Herters, Gander Mountain, Cabelas, all names that will only be a footnote in history in a decade or so.

Foot note: Wyoming is the only state in the lower 48 that has neither a BP or a Cabela's.

I haven't been in a big box store, except once to Academy, in 10 years. Went to the Lake Mary Gander once, never to Dicks, Cabelas (none nearby), and Sports Authority is a distant memory. I did go in a Bass Pro maybe a dozen years ago to buy 27 cases of 9mm WWB ammo for $3.88/box. Ain't seen a bargain since. Joe

I wish there was still a Sportsman's Warehouse locally. We did have two of them, but both closed around 10 years ago. No idea why, as it seemed to me they did a pretty good business. The main reason I liked them was they carried an extensive line of reloading components and tools at a fairly reasonable price. They also carried many guns and shooting accessories, but I have not bought any new guns in quite a few years.

I used to visit Federal Cartridge's plant in Anoka MN fairly frequently. There was a Sportsman's Warehouse about a mile away, and one of the Federal ballisticians once told me that any time they needed anything in the reloading equipment line for their lab, they bought it there.

We have a Cabela's and a Bass Pro and I am located 35-40 miles from either one.
At Cabela's couple months ago they had a great deal on the hard to get Sig P365 which was cheaper than any of our local gun shops and also Bud's Guns. They had 12 Sigs in stock and they were gone within 24 hours...my son got one.
I like Cabelas and have to travel there to get new brass of any caliber since my local gun shops don't carry any. One local shop very close has a great selection of powders which I buy there but never have any brass...kind of strange.
Just went up to Cabelas today to pick some .44 Mag brass to supplement my old brass.

The old Gibson’s discount store in Weatherford, Texas, is still my LGS.

Yep, still a couple of them around.

Cabelas & Bass Pro are too damn far & too damn, well annoying, when I see all the gadgets & gizmos & masses of humanity.

BP bought Cabela's just to get rid of the competition anyway...
Correct. If you can't compete against your competition, buy them and kill them. Simple as that. :(

For now... or at least the last time I checked... we still have both here in MA. BP is bigger and closer, but I never go there for anything. It's simply pointless. Sky high prices and nothing I want.

Cabela's is a little farther up the road. While prices are also generally high, those discounted gift cards, sales and other incentives made buying there a lot more attractive... or at least competitive with other sources. But moonbat state rules meant no used handgun sales and when they stopped the local price matching policy, shopping there became more-or-less pointless too.

If either or both of them disappear tomorrow, it won't affect me one little bit.

I like the occasional trip to Bass Pro Shop for a few fishing things, but I used to really like a lot of Cabelas items. Many of them seem to be unavailable since the BPS buyout. I'm beginning to loose faith in Cabelas as they seem to favor the"Redhead" lines of clothing. I find them sized oddly and inferior to the Cabelas products in many ways. I am thinking of cutting up my Cabelas Visa card.

I haven't been to our local Cabela's (Wheeling, WV) for about a month, but the last time I was there, I didn't notice any change, at least that I remember. I have bought a number of older handguns, mostly Colts and Smiths in their gun library. The last trip up, they had a great selection of vintage handguns of many different makes, including Smiths and Colts, Rugers, etc.

Everything else seemed pretty much the same to me, but the library and the Ammo section are where I spent most of my time. Kids and grandkids like the diaramas (African plains and whitetail deer and polar mountain) and the walk through aquarium, but I dont spend much time looking at them on my own.

Supposed to go up this week, I'll give a report when I get back.

Best Regards, Les
