Never developed a taste for Bacardi but for a mixer but I'll admit to a soft spot just because a privately held, seventh generation family owned business built this beaut on Biscayne Blvd. in the early 60's with the glazed tile and the annex with hammered glass mosaic ten years later. The glass illuminated from within at night has to be seen to be believed.

I agree with the Zaya suggestion. Smooth, rich with strong vanilla notes. Good over ice and a splash of lime juice.

Not expensive and also makes a very good Dark & Stormy. Better than Pusser’s for that purpose in my opinion.

One of my COVID things was drinking many variations on rum.
Rum has been on a popularity upswing for most of the last decade, with lots more varieties. There’s a slew of sweetened rums like Kraken and Pirate that are basically a recast of the spiced rums of yesterday.

My preferences now run to the more flavorful pot still Jamaican rums, which are known from having a certain “funk”. I find most of the Appletons, especially the Signature, to be what I prefer - distinct funk but still approachable.

A little less flavor but nicely balanced to my palate is Mt. Gay and Pussers. There is also time for Bacardi, such as for people I don’t care to waste a $25 bottle on.

Im a rumhead. Cheap daily rum i always go for captain Morgan private stock. I think it's just fantastic. My wife bought me a 20 year old plantation rum for my bday but I've realized I'm not a huge fan of funky Jamaican rums.

As a tiki collector I had a bottle of lemon hart 151 and honestly it was pretty smooth on ice instead of a floater.

For rum and coke my goto is barbancourt 8 year. Cheap and the perfect flavor with coke products.
Expensive rum i enjoy black tot last consignment. I don't own that but have had it a few times and worth a try.

Best rum I ever drank was while I was spending time in Canada and purchased a bottle of Cuban rum, like Cuban cigars their rum is without equal for my taste. I always thought the cigar thing was a myth until I smoked one on my way back Kelowna. Romeo and Julietta 50 ring maduro, smoked that dude down to the point where I couldn't hold it in my fingers, smooth and strong right to the end, never bitter. I smuggled a bottle of Cuban rum back when we sold the property a good fifteen years ago, put it down the boot of my waders. I don't know what I'm saving it for, I was going to drink it when I retired, that's been 12 years now...still have it stashed, if I remember right its Havana Club, I think I was paying $20 US for it back then. Back when we were up there regularly I would stop at Costco and get a case of Mexican Coke and a couple limes and drink Cuba Libres made from that stuff in a big ole glass. Its great straight up as well, smooth and dark

I dunno if that Havana club is still good tbh.. My father had a sealed bottle of Johnny walker from the 80s we opened and it was the worst headache of my life from 1 drink. The current Havana club was bought out but available in grocery stores. It's pretty good both the white rum and dark are worth it to own. As for Cuban cigars you couldn't pay me enough to try another. Had a buddy of mine snag me some from Cuba like 20 years ago and even as a cigar smoker the room spun so bad I puked. Those are no joke.
