My local pawn shop owner told me that two gentlemen from Cabela's showed up and purchased all of his older Smith & Wesson revolvers. He had some M66s and a Model 10. They made an offer for the lot and he accepted. Is this their normal procedure or do you think he was scammed and they just took a discount? I do not trust anyone and am suspicious.

Regardless of whether they were or weren't from there, they made him an offer he chose to accept. How could he be scammed? No different than me going in there telling him I want to buy all his wheel guns and to make me a package deal. Did he give them a discount just because they said they were Cabelas and otherwise would not have? Or, did he just give them a volume discount .....I don't see where he was scammed.

Yes, those were the Cabela's employees from their Gun Library. Have you ever wondered where they get all of the guns in the Gun Library? They buy them from estate sales, private party purchases, collections, local gun shops, pawn shops, etc.

The gun counter manager (had an FFL) of the Gander Mountain in Mentor Ohio would buy bulk used handguns from area pawn shops for the used gun case at his store.

Not surprised by this at all. From my experiences at Cabelas their GLs vary widely. One will have a knowledgable manager with reasonable prices (ex: used Glocks for $400-475) and another will have the same used Glocks from $600-700. Same goes for other brands/models.

Have visited a few of Cabela's Libraries myself. Nice to look at but the prices are through the roof for just about all of em. You can bet they did not offer half of what they are asking for these guns.

Cabelas has had a table (buying only) at the past several gun shows in Raleigh. I know several dealers that sell them what did not sell and they don't want to take back home.

I was at my local Cabelas yesterday! After looking at their weaponry with their prices I laughed all the way out the door and to my truck! :D
Of course that was after I looked around the store for what I wanted which they didn't have!
To me they are like Dick's I only go there when all else fails! ;)

Man, every single time the Cabela's Gun Library comes up in conversation, everyone seems to be 100% certain that they have never shown a price and/or eventually sold a gun to anyone who has half a clue about the market or has the skills to negotiate a decent price for a good used gun.

And yet... here I am having bought two S&W handguns from a Cabela's Gun Library, one revolver and one NIB, old stock (1993) semiauto.

Being that I'm quite confident in how and what I purchase... the truth seems to indicate that you poor guys simply haven't scored yet.

Maybe an "okay, you told me so" post would be in order if/when you do. And trust me, crow tastes fantastic when all your senses are tingling from a GREAT gun buy. Your pride will be easy to swallow.

My experience with Cabela's is that you never really know. Yes, most of the time they have all their handguns priced at the top end of the market. But once in a great while you will find a bargain. A little more often, you will find one priced about right.
It doesn't hurt to go in and look.

I'll bet they do scour the estate sales, pawn shops, gun shows, etc. All their gun library guns are listed on line. If you see one you like, they will ship it to the Cabela's closest to you. Since they sell a lot of guns, they are always looking for more inventory. Like everybody else, they want to buy low and sell high.

The Art of the Deal. Doesn't everyone realize that Cabelas is selling used guns to attract buyers to the store. They're bread and butter isn't used guns, it's everything else in the store being sold new at retail.

I've negotiated for a 1917 Smith and a O/U Beretta shotgun and the price was fair. Other complications kept me from buying either one but the price was right.

Make an offer and see where they go. You might be surprised at the counter.

Why don't you just tell us what you bought, how much you paid, and when did it happen. Lots of of guys on here will be able to tell us if you got a good deal.

You just might get lucky as i did on several old smith's like this one with a letter 1st mod hand ejector as new sent to P Bekeart for $550.I don't think it was fired outside of the factory.Might be a little early

or how about a 1 year production 22 Cal. Outdoorsman for $6oo

I was told by the gun buyer at Cabela's that if I had anything to sell, he would come out to my location & do an appraisal on my stuff. If we could come to an agreement on market price, he was authorized to offer $0.68 on the dollar. Seems to be a better deal than pawn, but not as good as a consignment. I have no issue with asking if they are hard on their price or making a substantially lower offer to open negotiations. And yes, there are bargains to be had. I walked out of the store with a 1917 Enfield that had a sporterized military stock - other than that it was original for $175.

I've seen some good deals on 469/669s at Cabelas- just am not interested in 1980s minis. And I did buy a beautiful late 1970s Wingmaster out of the GL. It was a clearly someone''s closet queen-probably only carried in the field once or twice. No dings or scratches and a tight action. The GL manager was willing to negotiate on the Wingmaster. But I figure every used gun has a negotiable price and if I'm interested in the gun I'll make an offer. At the worst my money stays in my pocket.

3 days ago I bought a Ruger Single Six 22/22mag for $450 from a Cabelas GL. It was tagged at $499. Pre-owned but doesn't look like it was ever fired, has all the paperwork & case Their new price on the same model is $569.
