Have gotten a lot done since the above post. We are about 95% finished with the exterior. As these projects tend to do, it has gotten bigger and more expensive than originally intended. It is really going to be nice, though.
Dimensions are 12x20, with two 10x12 rooms. At the suggestion of my builder and the insistence of my wife and daughter, a sleeping loft will be included. A big (12x18) screened front porch, and a 12x18 shed off the rear make for a fairly imposing structure. Huge windows will make for great natural lighting. A smallish bathroom off the rear will contain a composting toilet and tankless heater shower.
Luckily, the lumber shortages and prices haven’t had much effect, because most of the lumber came from trees felled and sawn on the property. I didn’t have enough framing lumber sawed, but my young friend with the portable sawmill has provided me with some full dimension lumber at a fraction of what it would cost me at a lumber yard.
I have decided to go with one of the portable lithium ion battery packs for lights, coffee, wife’s CPAP, etc. I will need a generator for AC. I haven’t decided yet whether I should go with two of the smaller power packs (think Jackery 300) or one larger unit.
We are hoping to be able to sleep in the cabin by the end of the summer. We are already enjoying picnicking on that big porch.
